RIP Bobby Fischer

For anyone here who has played chess ever, this name should be more than familiar. He absolutely dominated chess in the 60's and then vanished. Later he played a match against Boris Spassky in Yugoslovia and earned US criminal charges, which is why he passed away in Iceland.. He was 64 and died of kidney problems.

Really bizzare but brilliant man. He believed the Jews and the CIA were out to get him even though his mother was Jewish. He seemed like a very mentally tortured individual to me kind of like John Nash but in a different way. It seems he died awfully young, has any news agency said yet what he died from? It's sad he died so early and had such a tumultuous life but there is no arguing he was a genius at the game of chess.

I remember his match against Spassky in '72 in Reykjavik, Iceland. It dominated the news of the day and everybody started playing chess. He did more to promote the game in America than anyone else.

He praised the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, saying, "I want to see the U.S. wiped out," and described Jews as "thieving, lying ********." Fischer's mother was Jewish.

I believe he was crazy....... If he was not....May he rot.

Anti-semitic? I dont think so. Much of those quotes were taken out of context, like so many other things. Look at Chomsky and Finkelstein, both are highly intelligent, both Jewish and are thought of as being anti-semitic "holocaust deniers"...maybe its just what they stand for

On the other hand, he may be the first, but undocumented case of fame for a young person driving them to insanity. Move over Brittany and Paris, you two were not first. Bobby Fischer was.

Check your facts and read his full comments on 9/11 and his 17 radio broadcasts in recent years.

The only way I would agree with you that he wasn't anti-semitic would be if you mean he was most probably mentally ill and in his mental illness the things he said can not be judged as anti-semitic and can only be considered the ravings of a tortured mind.

Then I could agree with you but his statements taken alone not considering his mental illness were extremely anti-semitic especially his broadcast after 9/11 and the 17 radio talks he gave, especially the portions in those talks where he speaks of what he calls the "Bekins heist".
