Default Water Keel to Weighted Conversion ?

Who has done this and how have you done it. I have 20 Carry Lites i'd like to fill with sand but am not sure how to close up the holes.

Thanks,
Daryn

Hot glue gun or gorilla glue should do the trick.

You will break the bank with gorilla glue. I would use silicone or some cheap waterproof adhesive you can load up into a caulking gun.

I have done this with a number of decoys, fill the keel with sand and plug the ends with silocone. Be generous with it, I have decoys over 15 years of hard hunting with thisw fix that keep going.

All great ideas, but I'd just mix up some sand and concrete and fill'em up.
Mix it a little on runny side so it'll go through a funnel & drop a little pea gravel in to plug the front hole.

I suppose you could pack a cotton ball in the front hole and then drop some pea gravel in the rear, then the crete.

I think we used liquid nails for the ones we did, but about any adhesive caulk should do the job.

Daryn,

As you know the season is almost over. If the Carry Lites have a season or two under their belt, retire them and give them to the kiddy program at the OWF. Then spend $40 and buy 2 dozen Hotbuys for next year.

HB's are weighted but not nearly as heavy as most snaplock types and when you are setting deeks, they self right. Hotbuys are a good value in my book. Sure they are not as high quality as some, (G&H or GHG full bodies for instance) but they only cost $20.00 a dozen...heck you get two years out of them they are disposable at that price point.

Jim

Yeah! What Jim said. I'm concerned that the OWF will be short on dekes for the kids this year....so donate 'em!

I worked my booth across from the kids tent last year. Man, were those kids happy with their dekes!

Oh I see how you are put the guilt trip on me . If its any consolation it was a Kid that gave these to me . They are the decoys I am converting to Divers, Bluebill and Cans. Otherwise they definately would go to the Kids.

He's wanting to weight the keels of these Blue Bills & Can's he's painted up. So I can understand his goals. GHG Bluebill or Canvasback deeks aren't the normal $19/doz like the mallards.

Don't use latex based caulk, gets all over you and your deeks after they've been sitting in the water for a few hours.
