Does anyone know of any wireforming tools that I can get to make my own spinners?need something that will form consistent loops and tool that makes smaller loops than the twisttech wireformer will do...how do luhr jensen and other companys including swivel makers do theirs??? There has to be a better way????

Re: lure making
I use a pair of German jewelry pliers. Both of the jaws on these pliers are round and taper from about 3/16" to about 1/16".
You start by bending the wire away, then bring it back around the upper jaw. Then you switch to the lower jaw and bend the rest of the loop around. I think I bought them at Fisherman's Marine Supply in the spinner builder section.
You will also need a good pair of needlenose pliers and some *****.
For wire, you can buy the pre-cut pieces or (cheaper) buy the heavy duty wire leader that comes in a lose roll. Several weights are available.
Practice makes perfect and some will turn out ugly (they still catch fish). You can make custom spreaders with the same wire.
Good luck and be careful cutting off the excess ends as those little chunks of wire tend to leave at high velocity. Safety glasses come in handy.

Re: lure making
Crabbait is right, all you need are a good pair of needlenose pliers and a a pair of Diagonal Side Cutting Pliers, (otherwise known as "Dikes". How many otherwise good words are now dirty?) Anyway, I bought the $90 model from Cabela's but I only use it to make the hook eye, then top end I make with gloves, needle nose pliers, and side cutters. I also second the safety glasses.

Re: lure making
Go to BC Anglers Post in Oregon City, ask to see the Bogg's Tacklemaker. I just bought one and I like it

Re: lure making
I have the cabelas one too. It works great except for the larger spinners I really want to make . It needs a bigger internal shaft housing so the spinner body fits inside. I used a dremmel and carved out a bigger spindle area for the body and it helped a bunch. I can now spin the top end too. I have to add hooks after spinner is built.

Re: lure making
dampainter for local stuff BC angling has the best selection you can also try the two links I have below. Fishermans shack has a selection comparable to BC and mor-tac has some nice french blades, heavier gauge than you can get a lot of places. All three have spinner making tools. I also have the boggs, you can mass produce with this once you get the hang of it. Real easy to use and faster than pliers.

Re: lure making
Another great site that you can order online or call, and they have a complete catalog. They have a great selection of wire formers from $9 to $25 and a whole lot more. www.jannsnetcraft.com
