I am gonna be a Dad!
And not in 9 months, in a couple of weeks! My wife and I found out today that we have been selected to become the adoptive parents of a sibling pair of foster children from Oregon. There is a week long period for appeals of the committee decision, but our case worker says an appeal is unlikely. After that, we can begin the transition. We will travel to the town they live in now, and spend some time with the kids getting to know them, and more importantly, letting them get to know us. Then we will bring them home, and we can start our new lives as a family.
We haven’t met them yet, but we feel like we know them, having gone over their history and two inch thick case file. The kids have had a tough life so far, but they are young and they are resilient, and doing quite well given the adversity they have faced in their young lives.
Wish us all well. My wife and I are super excited and I wanted to share my joy. I can't wait to take these kids fishing and hunting in this little slice of paradise called Oregon.I know it will be a huge change and there will be tough times, but right now, I can't even think of that. I feel like I am ready to burst.

Re: I am gonna be a Dad!
Congratulations!!!!!!
I can tell you from experience it is a fun and difficult road. I adopted my kids through foster care a little over two years ago.
And yes they have both been hunting and fishing. My 5 year old son asks to go hunting everytime I go. He loves it.
Just remember their background in the difficult times.

Re: I am gonna be a Dad!
That's wonderful!! There are so very many children from horrible situations that could really use the love, support, and nurturing a healthy family can provide. My brother is an attorney for the Juvenile Rights Project and sees these kids every day. I'm sure it will be quite a challenge, but ever so rewarding too.
Just to know you two will have the chance to better the lives of those children will give you great joy!! I'm glad there are people like you out there willing to put in the hard work and dedication.
We all wish you the very best of luck!

Re: I am gonna be a Dad!
Congrats My wife and I adopted a 10 year old little girl 11 years ago, Had to go live in Albania for 30 days, go through all of the Albaniain rules and American processes to get her.
I cannot explain all the areas that God blessed us with in this !! But I have stories that will last a life time! I have 3 older children and when my twins were seniors and about to leave for college we started praying now what ??. God said this is what I want you to do?
She is deaf and delayed. She will be with Daddy forever and I could not be happer. She is happy, healthy, except for her hearing. But the rewards are far greater. People used to tell my wife and I we were some kind of saints for adopting this little girl. After 11 years, we learned, the blessing has been all ours. She has enriched our lives beyond words. She is the angel to the sibblings and the church family.
She is almost 21 now and loves to fish, although she figures I am her personal guide and any pole that bends is a que for her to grab it. For a deaf person she sure makes a lot of noise when she is fighting a fish. While she is fighting a fish she will stop reeling if she thinks you should be doing something and your not. She will point to something, the moter, net etc ... to let you know what she wants.
I could go on with the stories for hours on how she has blessed use!
Enjoy what God has given you!! God is good

Thanks so much for sharing your story. It is really moving. I can imagine your daughter fighting a fish, giving you orders. That's great stuff.
Thanks everyone for the kind words. We have been slowly moving towards this for 3 years, it is really something to be so close to having a new son and daughter in the house. I have to be one of the happiest guys on earth.

Good for you & your wife, Threemuch. It takes a special people to do what you folks are doing.
As others have said, there will be many ups and downs. An indeed it will be a test of patience at times. But I know of nothing more satisfying than being a parent.
I wish you all the best of luck and hope that all works out well.
