Default Tillamook

Well, if you were to ask some of the Ifish gang they would tell you that they had a pretty good day today (right Greg?). If you were to ask me I would say I had a good day watching every one but me get into the fish. Started up at the Oyster House and saw only 3 caught. At low slack went out to the corral and saw lots caught. I would say 18-24. Nothing spectacular but consistent. Saw a couple of BIG noooks. I must not be holding my mouth right. Maybe next time.

Sorry to hear about the skunk Pat, next week if it works out I'll help you put a few nooks in the boat

No Pat, not a good day, just average. We ended with 2 fish, 26 pound buck and 27 pound hen. Can you say, got eggs!? I noticed something you may want to try next time. Fish the spinner further from the boat. When I have the room, I like to keep the spinner at least 25 feet from the boat. I believe chinook are a little spooky and trolling further back helps. At least that's my opinion, caught two fish today trolling this way.

Best of luck next time,

Gregg

Good point Gregg. I'm with you on that one. I also believe when fishing shallow water, the fish may move to the side when your boat goes over them, and after your boat passes they move back. And if you're a bit farther out from the back of the boat, your spinner or bait will be in their original area when and if they decide to return there.

My 2 cents worth.

Exactly Mark. Shallow water bay fishing is not like deep water trolling or shallow water ocean fishing for silvers. The rules about 45 degree angle and fish under the boat doesn't apply to shallow bay fishing, just as long as you have room for this. Keeping the lure in contact with the bottom and back from the boat is key. Another reason I try to avoid the crowds.......the key word here is TRY. Only problem is I keep drawing crowds with my net out all day.

I'm in complete agreement with you guys on keeping the lure well back from the boat in shallow water. Many many moons ago when I switched from 2 0z. to 1 0z. (3 oz. down to 1 1/2 oz. with a stronger tide) trolling spinners in upper T-Bay my catch rate definitely went up.
