Default Ethanol in diesel

What are your thoughts? It can't be a good thing.

I was thinking about this today. Why screw up deisel too?

What I mean is have any of you looked at the emission data from diesel?

I did, and was surprised at the data. YAY Diesel!

Ya, it stinks, but what comes out of the pipes may surprise you.

What do you mean? Power or less pollution? If it's less pollution at possible high expense repairs than my heart definitely isn't green. I will start filling up in Vancouver. I have really started thinking about moving out this state as it is. I've lived here my entire life but the legislature makes decisions that most Oregonians do not favor.

The new diesels with the new emissions stuff have very clean tailpipe emissions, at the expense of a little fuel mileage.

I can't imagine alcohol of any type being beneficial in a diesel. It has zero lubrication properties (there already seem to be issues with ULSD with some injection systems), and it absorbs water. Sounds like a no win situation.

Sorry for my lack of details. Diesel WITHOUT ethanol is by far and away a greener atmoshpheric pollutant than gasoline with ethanol. Nice oxymoron there, huh?

Emission-wise, compared to gasoline, is what I meant. Sorry.

Correct me if I am wrong (and I know someone will know for sure) but isn't ethanol one of the ingriedients in home brewed bio-diesel???

I believe methanol (not ethanol) is used with lye only to remove the glycerin, not as fuel itself.

Most of the decisions made by the legislature appear to me to be favored by the folks in Ptld and the folks who live within a few miles of I-5 between Ptld and Eugene.
These are, after all, the folks who elect the majority which controls the legislature.

Um, where did this come from? You can't put ethanol in diesel. The flash point is too low.

Oh, OK. Just found it. "E-diesel".

Hmmmm.......ethanol is denatured with 5% gasoline by law. That doesn't sound good for a diesel.
