Mouth of the Clack report
So hey...why not jump right back on and post a report?? I'm FREE!!!!
Fished the mouth of the Clack yesterday afternoon. Nice afternoon, a bit windy.
Hardly any pressure, and I can see why.
In past years..there's always been jillions of fish rolling, jumping and flopping around.
This year...not the case. I was there from about 1:30 til dusk...and saw only one fish break the surface. Assuming the fishing would be "not good", I didn't think leaving my net in my truck would be such a bad thing. (Left there from last Friday's outing in the drift boat). And of course I was thinking in the back of my mind that if I didn't have a net on board, my chances of getting a fish might improve.
Well..after about three Bud's...while I was daydreaming, I heard my rodholder creaking...and son of a gun...I'm inta a fish!! Geeez...about a 12 lb. clipped hen.
Ive gotten reports of lots of fish being in that area first thing at daylite, but I haven't been out there yet early a.m.
Can anybody verify that?? Or will I have to report that tomorrow afternoon?
Moral to the story?? If you REALLY want to catch a fish...leave your net somewhere other than in the boat!!
I'll post my results from tomorrow's trip out there for those of you that are wondering what's happening in that area. Sure is nice being 5 minutes away

Re: Mouth of the Clack report
Good for you Mark.
Were you in the big boat or the DB? In the little river or the little river? I was wondering because that new dock might be a real bummer for some boats now and later in the year.Silver right?... just gota get details. Now that you are free you can post all the details.

Re: Mouth of the Clack report
What did you catch it on?
I'll be there or the mouth of the sandy tomorrow (if I can get someone to come along, hate fishing by me-self).

Re: Mouth of the Clack report
MP...trolling a flourescent red Wiggle Wart about 75 feet behind the boat at 2.5 mph. Generally..that's a bit slower than I like to go...but I was daydreaming, and things are different this year. Since you live in Milwaukie...I'd reccommend the Meldrum area for proximity, but I just don't know how it'll be early a.m. My reports tell me people are getting fish there in the a.m.
Or...
You could hit the mouth of the Sandy, and we could exchange reports later in the day. I'll be at the Meldrum area unless I get a wild hair..you know where..and decide to get up at 3:30 and drive to Tillamook (Not)

Re: Mouth of the Clack report
Mark,
What do you think of the Big Improvement, @ Clackamette boat ramp. The addition of the docks is in my opinion, A Big Joke!! Ever since they re-vamped Clackamette, I refuse to use the facility!! It was just fine the way it used to be, and then they messed it all up. Heck, the pilings for the current dock, are crooked as all get out, take a look on your next time past there!!

Re: Mouth of the Clack report
Drachir....Yeah..it's a joke...just like all the "other" improvements Clackamas County has done to boat facilities.
For example...At Carver, and Riverside..the ramps are nice, but I cried when I saw them dumping big boulders where the sand used to be. So now..if you may be fishing alone, in higher water..where ya gonna put your boat while you park your rig?? If the ramp's not busy...you can beach it next to your trailer..but it's really inconvenient.
And I guess I have to say I liked the way the Carver ramp USED to be. A few early birds could park right there near the ramp.
It's clear to me whoever is doing the planning on these ramps and parking facilities is not a boater.
My other concerns about the Clackamette ramp are all the boardheads and the possibility of vandalism. And like Bait O Eggs mentioned...how do you suppose that new dock is gonna handle a flood situation with trees and large debris coming down the river. I'm willing to bet it's gonna go "Bye-Bye".
Your tax dollars at work!!
I don't plan on ever using that facility again.

Re: Mouth of the Clack report
We came, we trolled, we caught some nice bass, but no silvers. Saw only 2 roll that were silvers for sure, but we knocked off at 9:30 a.m. Spotted Fishin Mission, and my buddy thought that he might have a few tricks, so we stayed waaaay back and sort of piggy-backed for awhile, but this brought us no silvers either. Oh well, there's always the next trip.
Maybe going Feldheimers to Carver on Sunday, anyone with a time frame on how long this trip might be? I have read the other posts about which paths to take. Such as hug the first tailout to the right, float right in front of E. Creek, and to stay middle river then jog left at powerlines at first island. From Barton I was told to stay left at the first decision spot then stay right at the second. Other than that I heard it was pretty straight forward. Any other tips or tricks? Thanks in advance, and let's all hope it rains soon.

Re: Mouth of the Clack report
Chris...it depends on how hard you fish it. I'd just guess that to just float it would take about 4 hours??? Sound right guys?? No fishing..just traveling time.

Re: Mouth of the Clack report
From Barton to Carver, stay left all the way until you see a yellow buoy at the last split. You can see it to your right. Go right there. I stay left all the way until there. Good luck from feldheimers to barton. Not alot of water for that drift, but it's being done. I live about 4 miles past feldheimers and I see a few boats going that way. Barton to Carver is the best right now though if you don't wanna walk the boat. Good luck and be safe.
Oh yeah I've never made it from Feldheimers to Carver in less than 6 hours. Depends if you want to stop and fish on the way down
