Crawdads in tidewater for chinook
Anyone have experience using whole crawfish under a bobber or up from plunking while in tidewater. Just had an idea????
Thanks
John

Re: Crawdads in tidewater for chinook
John, I haven't used them fishing for tidewater chinooks, but I bet they would work; especially if you cured some larger peeled crawdad tails or small whole ones in the shell by soaking them a bit in redish egg juice drained from the curing process. I have done this with uncured cooked whole prawns in egg juice and it has occassionally been a great followup to the many eggs being thrown at them as they stack the lower half of the tide (and is great for springer fishing too). I've had a few days when the bite went off and the prawn produced. If you don't mind the expense, uncured raw jumbo prawn tails about 4" +/- from the seafood market can be killer in tidewater. And have some cured in egg juice along too. If you don't have much success with this go ahead and post about it. If you hammer 'em with this just e-mail me only about it. jk hehe
A couple other good change ups I've posted about in the past are to rig up a herring on a 40" leader and about a 1 1/2 oz. cresent sinker and cast and slowly retrieve it deeply thru the holes. Same for using sardine filet wrapped Kwikfish or spinners. You just have to use them in the right situation so as not to get guys upset with casting near their floats/eggs/shrimp that have gone off the bite. Use as light as 1/2 oz. weight or less in the shallower holes.

Re: Crawdads in tidewater for chinook
I'm a fan of crawdads, haven't tried them for nooks.
I just learned there's a season, minimum size and limits in Washington.
Fortunately, the lesson was via the reg book not the warden.

Re: Crawdads in tidewater for chinook
Some of the old timers, older than me, may kill me, but I've seen them use the oily tuna
fish out of a can, under a bobber, wrapped in either "roe netting" or a piece of nylon stocking, in a ball on their hook in Tidewater. Matter of fact, watched this setup
"GO DOWN" many times over the years. Secret stuff, no doubt.

Uh oh, ****** is letting the secret of the tuna ball out. I've got dibs on his driftboat when the oldtimers get to him.

Re: Crawdads in tidewater for chinook
I should be out on the river this weekend to give it a try. I had to take the afternoon off to go on a bait and tackle run. The curse of a small town, there are no "real" tackle shops here since fishing unlimited closed.
I'm tired of mooching eggs off my buddies.
Thanks ******!

They use tuna balls on the deschutes for chinook. They catch more with tuna than we do with eggs. Never liked the smell sticking with egg's.

Re: Crawdads in tidewater for chinook
Nooks like tuna that "taste good," not tuna with "good taste."
Sorry Charlie!
Who remembers that commercial?
