Default Spybot - official website

What is the official website for Spybot, is it www.spybot.com? There are a lot that are similar that I assume are fakes (e.g. www.spybotware.com). Just want to make sure that I don't get the OPPOSITTE of what I actually want.

Any concensus out there on what's the best? I think adaware is another version?

Thanks,
Biederboat

This is the homepage for spybot- http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html
I have been using spybot for a few years. It is a good program. I actually run Windows defender and Spybot. Both programs are free.

You can also find these programs at/through CNET. Just add a .com and search their site.

I generally go to Cnet's www.download.com In general, they provide a safe location to get software of this sort which is free from spyware, viri, etc.

I have also used ad-aware and AVG in addition with good results. It is a pity we have to use these programs eh??

Tomato/Tomatoe... http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html is an alias for http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

I've been using it for years too and I think the safer-networking site may have been around before the TLD ".info" which came online sometime in 2001...either way, both sites get you to exactly the same website.

You'll not likely find a consensus on the best Anti-Spyware/Adware.
Spyware Doctor and Spysweeper seem to be the darlings of the magazine reviewers lately.
I've tried both and the performance hit is too much IMO.

AdAware and Spybot are two seasoned warriors but they are not as highly regarded by folks in the computer security business as they once were.
The free version of AdAware will not real-time scan and must also be manually updated.
Spybot will real-time scan if TeaTimer is enabled...if I recall, you still have to update manually.

An anti-spyware solution that I have purchased (my AV and firewall are free) is SUPERAntiSpyware.
They are based in Eugene and offer a free version that is 100% manual.
It was recommended to me by an IT guy who uses it (amongst other apps) to de-gunk client's machines.
If you decide to purchase, you receive three licenses. I used two at my house and gifted the third.
