Re: Trout Jigs
I have cought many trout limits with jigs. One that I always loved for ice fishing was a #8 hook with a 1/16th oz sinker crimped on the shank near the eye. 6 rubber feelers were tied above this(three per side), and the lead was painted. I always had a few in chartreuse, flourescent orange, and black. These were most commonly tipped with meal worms. I have also done well with maribou (black or white), Sweedish pimples, Jigging Rapalas, Lead heads tied Woolie Bugger style(channiel body with maribou or rubber legged tail), and even plastic tail grubs. For warmer weather fishing, I have done well with Maribou jigs for rainbows, brown, and lakers., and lead heads of from 1-2 1/2 oz and LARGE twister tail grubs (4-5 1/2" bodies and 8-10" overall) tipped with a strip of sucker or chub meat for large lakers. (Mackinaw). Be aware that strikes are a little hard to detect as the jig is often taken on the drop and a fish will drop them quickly.
