What kind of dogs
I recieved a PM from a gentleman asking what kind of dogs I had posted. For some reason it never occurs to me that everybody is not dog nuts. So I thought I'd re-post some photo's and give they type of dog they are.
English Setter's. They can be several different colors. Black/white, Chestnut/ white, orange/white (as these), tri color which might be Black, orange and white of chestnut, orange and white. They might be beltons which might be described like a roan horse. They can have lots of white (like mine) or the can have ticking from light to heavy.
Orange/ white E. Setter
Tri color E. Setter - notice the orange patch under the eye patch
American Brittany. These can be orang/white, or liver/white. I've seen some French Brittany that are black/white. This dog, one of my favorites, belonged to a gentleman that lived in Troutdale.
English Pointer, now properly simply called Pointer. They can be liver/white, black/white and orange/white. Some are very nearly all white. This is the king of birds dogs but they can be more than a handfull in the field so great is their desire.
German Shorthair. Probably one of the favorites of the pointing breeds along with the Brittany. They can be Liver/white, solid liver, liver ticked, liver roan, liver patched and I have heard of tri color (liver, orange ane white) and black and white. Those two seem to be very uncommon.
This is liver/white
Liver/ticked This was one of my all time favorite dogs, Hannah.

I agree totally. We love our Brit. Great dogs indoor and outdoor.
I read that AKC will not recogonize a black/white French Brit. I also ran into a guy at Umatilla with a Brit that he claimed to be a French even though it was colored the typical orange/white. It had a really small head and frame IMO for the breed. Does anyone know more about the Frenchies?

Re: What kind of dogs
Good looking dogs. Hannah sure had/has some pretty ticking. I've been lucky enough to hunt behind Setters, Brits, and am now hunting behind my 4th shorthair.
When Setters point that big ole tail is like a flag pole that says birds ahead come and get em boys.
I haven't been around a hunting dog breed that I didn't like, I prefer shorhairs simply for their endurance and short coat. I hunt mostly Chukar and by day 3 shorthairs are still eager to get going and back it up with their effort in the field. Thanks for sharing.

Nice looking dogs!
Howe ever i would classify this spread of breeds as Ferrari's and BMW's. Can't teach a dog to hunt, but please get them to get along with you!

That might have been me Nehalem guy, I've haven't seen too many other Frenchy's around - was it opening weekend? French Brits can be orange/white, black/white, liver/white or tri-colored and are typically smaller than American Brittanys. My female is about 27 lbs and came from Plum Creek Kennels in South Dakota. You can learn more about the breed from the breeder's web page at http://french-brittany.com. My girl is orange & white just like her mom, the pointing orange & white female on their front page
BTW - An easy way to tell the breeds apart is the color of their nose - pink for American Brittany and black for French Brittany
"CL"
Almost forgot - Really nice looking dogs there Don!

Re: What kind of dogs
Someday when I figure out how to post photos, you all will get a look at a real hunting type Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. Nothing like what you're used to seeing and hunting with here on the West Coast.

Re: What kind of dogs
American Pointers !!!!!!!!!!!!!
We roll in every type of terrain there is in the PNW. And you guys are invited to roll with us up at Willamette Pass on the downhill bikes.
Running dogs on the mountain is pretty fun, we also do some horseback but the DH bike is IMO the future to the Mountain/Canyon dog.
We have some Miller, Phantom,Elhew dogs all prefixed " Pacific "
Here's a link to the pedigrees.... http://www.perfectpedigrees.com/sear...?breed=Pointer
Check this one out .... possibly the strongest Miller blood here in the PNW !!! Pacifc_Miller's_Charm

French Brittanies have their own registry. They can be orange/white, black/white, liver/white, or a tri color combo of any of these colors. They are typically smaller and will naturally hunt closer than their American counter parts if trained correctly. I have had both varieties and enjoyed good success with both. I like the close hunters and small dogs, so will stick with the French from now on.

Pacific Pointer,
Is that a Miller pup? Nice looking pup! Bit of a curl on the tail?
