Question No trout fishing for me

A few years back they closed down the trout fishing around where i live. I fished the Tualatin river and its small tributaries with my dad for as long an i can remember. We never had a problem catching a nice stringer of cutthroats.

It was a few years back when they changed the regs. It is C&R only now. And artifical only. It is just way too brushy to cast a fly or even a lure.

Anyone that has fished these creeks and rivers knows that it is a nightcrawler or crayfish show only. Most of the time you would be hanging on to a branch or a tree root with one hand and fishing with the other. I just loved this kind of fishing.

Is there any talk of opening up these creeks and rivers for retention and live bait?

Tualitan River, Dairy Cr, Scoggins Cr. Carpender Cr, Gales Cr. ect.

I feel your pain. I grew up right on the upper tualaton and spend countless our beating the brush and catching some great trout along the way.

Yeah bait worked well but I caught some great cutts on rooster-tails and spoons, even a few jigs. With worms we always had the little sculpin taking our bait. Did snag quite a few trees but it was nice being able to let the big boys go rather than deal with a swallowed hook (but it sure was nice to take a few home every once in a while too). Good memories.

Grew up in Gaston, used to ride my bike into Cherry Grove, over to Hagg Lake, Scroggins, Lee's Falls, little Lee Falls the old dam site on the upper Tualatin....talk about some memories. The upper reaches in Cherry Grove were rooster tail heaven while worms did the trick down "in town".

Any other Gastonites from the mid 70's through 90?

I currently live a 5 min walk from gales creek i fish it almost every day its open. My best fish is a 18inch cut i hooked a coho jack in there as well but lost it at the bank. And i know a guy who caught a Steelhead fishing off sesson in there last year.

I think I would learn to use other lures and tactics in those situations, rather than just throw in the towel and not fish

The catch and release part is something we will all have to get use to because there are too many of us and not enough fish to go around.

It's easy for me to catch and release as I don't care to eat fish that much anyway. That doesn't mean I don't get any enjoyment out of fishing though! The anticipation of the next Saturday fishing trip is already killing me!

There are some moster trout in that system! When I was younger we would walk in behind the water treatment plant (close to where Gales creek dumps in) I caught my first 20'' trout out of there, I thought I hooked a salmon.
