Default GE dishwasher Smart sensor :( Help?

What a mess! After the fact, I read that you aren't supposed to fill your dishwasher with a chlorine based detergent and then an alkaline detergent, after that.

Anyhow, I have this new pretty dishwasher that I just love, but now it's just a mess. I put one kind of dishwashing liquid in, and then bought another kind. I didn't know about the two kinds-problem!

I did this a week ago. Today, I noticed huge clumps of hard soap in the "smart dispenser". My dishes were not coming clean and this is probably why. Right?

I can't get all the soap out! There is up to 45 ounces in there and I tried a turkey baster, and my fingers, and.... nothing works!

Does anyone.. has anyone ever had this mess? I'm at my wits end.

Bill bought all new beautiful stainless steel appliances, and they are so nice! I love the convection oven and the fridge, but... but... but....

HELP!

Jen

OK. I ran it with the lid open. (The soap dispenser lid, silly!) and then I still had soap in there.

So, I poured can after can of hot water and sucked it out with the turkey sucker.

It's finally down to little bits. How the heck am I going to disolve those little bits of hard cemented soap? :wahhhhhhhhhh:

If it's an Alkaline based detergent you are trying to rid yourself of, from your machine or your hands, use Vinegar. It will cut the caustic without hurting you...

Jennie, also make sure that your water heater is turned up high enough for the dishwasher. When we bought our house we were having problems with the dishwasher. Read owner manual on washer and had to have 140 degree water at hot water heater. Turned up water heater and have not had a problem since.

The hot water is fine... it also says in the manual that if you mix (accidently) chlorine and alkaline detergent, it will do this.

Guess what? It do!

Are you sure vinegar won't hurt the rubber gaskets?

I'd do a little reading or call the manufacturer before I'd use the vinegar. I've read somewhere that it can damage things...never used to but with the new materials...Actually, perhaps the manufacturer could help you out with that problem...call their customer service. just don't tell them who you are in case what you did voids the warranty...

Nope, but I do know that it will cut the alkaline, since it's basically a low percentage solution of acetic acid. We used it when we had caustic on our hands. It was nearly impossible to remove with any other method.

I could see it damaging gaskets perhaps if they were soaking in vinegar, but not sure how much if any damage would result in your application. The alkaline dishwasher soap seems like it would do more damage to rubber....

Well, after about 5 loads of pure water, the particles are almost gone. ALMOST....

Sigh... maybe one more...
