A message in a bottle
This was sent to me. I thought it had merit.
Take it as you will, keep it in mind.
Your thoughts on this subject will be considered.
----
Maybe it's time for a reminder that the topic for the board is Fishing and as the nation and world get back to business as usual, so shall Ifish.
It is within the guidelines to remove non-fishing threads.
They have been tolerated as we adjust to the recent aggressions, but there are other forums where discussion of international politics and foreign affairs is appropriate. Please use them for commentary and let's get back to fishing!
----
Thanks,
Jen

Re: A message in a bottle
If we can branch out a little, we build a stronger community. There's more to life than fishing. Well, that's what someone told me anyway.

Re: A message in a bottle
My $0.02 comment:
Not only stronger Phish-on, also more informative and more fun. As long as a thread is well labeled, which a majority are, people can decide if they want to read it or not. If it doesn't interest many members it will quickly pass on to the following pages and be forgotten. And that's OK by me as long as most of the threads are fishing related (which will always be the case). ... Just an opinion from this member.

Re: A message in a bottle
I haven't noticed a lack of fishing related threads because of a little small talk. I'm puzzled by people that want to be ifish ***** and have any non fishing posts removed. Someday I might log on and not see any fishing stuff on this board, but I doubt it. Unless something is totally innapropriate, leave it be. As stated above, if nobody's interested, it'll fall off the page.

Re: A message in a bottle
I moderate at another board on a different subject, and we just made a separate forum for non subject matter related topics. It works great.

Re: A message in a bottle
My .02 is that I agree with earlier posts
(Phish, RT & Catch), after all the DB has the
label "community". If you can't share your thoughts and ideas with your fishing friends, who can you share them with?

Re: A message in a bottle
I think some of us are missing the point, which is:
This is Jennie's board.
She has told us that the volume of traffic is causing her problems.
She has asked us nicely on several occasions to restrict our posts to fishing related topics, which would reduce volume without compromising what this board is all about.
I enjoy this board, and, as a common courtesy, am doing my best (which is less than perfect) to respect her wishes.

Re: A message in a bottle
We are on this board because we like to talk. Sometimes, we like to talk too much, and don't know when to keep quiet. I personally, although I come here for fishing related talk, find it irresistable to respond, because I have an opinion on everything. (and it's the right opinion too! ) If they were deleted, I wouldn't be tempted to inflict my opinion on everyone else. Just my 2 cents, adjusted for inflation to a nickle.

Re: A message in a bottle
If it truly is an issue with the bandwidth bill being too high the first place I'd go would be to limit images to at the MOST 100k and more like 75k instead of the current 200k. Sounds piddly, until you consider that text flows back and forth pretty quickly and efficiently at only a few thousand bytes TOPS. Then you get 2-5,000 thread views of someone with three 112K pictures of him holding up some fish and that just plain hurts.
Now if it were me I'd just make you monkeys find someplace else to host your pictures and link them from there (you DSL owners out there could run Apache on your Windows box easily to serve such *** ), but luckily for you it's not my site.

Re: A message in a bottle
Yea....the "other smoke" that really relates to fishing and a "family" discussion board along with mistaken identities.
I respect Jennies wishes and all the hard work put into I-fish. I'm starting to see what has frustrated others in the past. I guess I take it too seriously, but the hypocrisy bothers me.

Nuetron...Unblock your E-Mail...as what I have to say to you will make you look like a fool here, and doesn't belong here. If you have a bone to pick with me...try E-Mailing me...as the kind of **** you posted on this thread doesn't belong here.

Re: A message in a bottle
I think most of us come here to see what's up in the "fishing world". I know I do. I think most others do. We're all entitled to our own opinions...and that's mine. I save the other stuff for "boat talk".
