I wonder what this ticket is worth.
I was reading the post about the guy who got a ticket in cal, for lane change,
Here is the one I got.
Back in 1979, we were comming back from Taho, to San Francisco, on vacation, some hwy down there, anyway 3 lanes of traffic, and out of no where is a state policeman comes up behind us, turns on his lights, I thinking what the heck, I looked back, and looks like he is stopping traffic, behind us.
I keep driving, and out of no where at 65, there's this big dog, dead in the hwy, we went around it, and off we went, about 10 miles down the road, I get pulled over for not letting the officer pass us, that ticket was $250.00, I told the officer I was not comming back to your state as long as I am alive, and I well not be in court.
Now here it is 29 years later, never been back, never heard from anyone down there. I have not been pulled over, or checked out, so I just about forgot about it.

eeek!!! Sounds like a warrant waiting to happen. I would at least call and see if the case is still open. Would really suck to go down to Disneyland or something with great great grandkids someday and have them see their 85 yr old grandpa get hauled off when he gets pulled over for some stupid traffic stop.

Re: I wonder what this ticket is worth.
Isn't there a statute of limitations.
Don't all criminal acts expire after some number of years except murder.
Wouldn't an old ticket be Null & Void after say 7 or so years.

Some crimes there is no statute - in the case of California a speeding ticket is three years. However, the failure to pay and failure to appear have no limitation

Re: I wonder what this ticket is worth.
Hmmmm. 1979. $250. At an average of, say 8% interest, that is a doubling period of 9 years.
$250 becomes $500 in 1988.
$1,000 in 1997.
$2,000 in 2006.
$2,160 in 2007.
About $2,300 now.
But the good news is that you will owe $4,600 in 2016, $9,200 in 2025, etc.
And that's without penalties.:frown:
Stay outta Dodge.

Man O Man, after reading the replys, I just got off the phone with California court fileing system, they said that the officer that wrote the ticket quite???? If I had a ticket that far back, would have been filed in the round hope basket.

Re: I wonder what this ticket is worth.
I got a ticket in Portland for doing a u-turn 20 yrs ago.
I was pulled over while on patrol, following a DUI suspect. The officer told me it looked like we were racing.
I pointed to my overhead light bar, not on, but there, and reminded him that I was the reporting party on the 911 call he responded to and he acknowledged that maybe I was legit. He ran my ID and then informed me my driving priveledges in Oregon were suspended 20 yrs ago.
Normally they confiscate your vehicle and hold you till you pay bail-equal to the warrant , but since I was on duty, he let me go.
Seems the dep't of licensing attached a 75$ fee to my record. The original 186$ was paid, but not the fee.
Cost me 75$ to go back to work.

Re: I wonder what this ticket is worth.
LOL, Norski your so funny, where do you come up with this stuff. I am sure it has been long forgotten. There had to be a time when some city or state worker would have had to enter that in by hand into a computer system since I seriously doubt it was done in 1979 and I bet that that just did not happen and if it did it was 4 different $100M systems ago, all with incompatible databases, and someone had to make the call which stuff to just forget about, your speeding ticket probably would not have made the cut.

Maybe you could just tell them you were in a coma for the last 28 years, and you just woke up and found the ticket in your wallet.

At minimum, probably a trip to jail. Why didn't you just take care of it?

Re: I wonder what this ticket is worth.
at least, you have no driving license in california. or will not be able to get one if you tried. a test would be to go down to your local osp station during buisness hours and ask them to run a search on yourself. or try to register a utility trailer and have them inspect it for vin# they will smile while they run your ID

Re: I wonder what this ticket is worth.
You are good to go in Oregon, your California ticket was issued before the states started sharing information via computer.
Now when you renew your license, everything comes up, and they won't issue you a new one until you take care of the out of state violation.
