Default Cottage Grove

I've been through Cottage Grove hundreds of times, but haven't spent much time exploring the area. I was just offered a job there and am seriously considering taking it, even though it would force me to give up my Alaska charter boat gig.
For ifishers who live in Cottage Grove, how do you like it? Looks like the Umpqua isn't too far away, and it's fairly close to Winchester Bay, Coos Bay and the Columbia.

Cottage Grove is a really nice town. There is a lot of great fishing very close to Cottage Grove. The Willamette, is very close for Springers and Summer Steelies. Not to mention the world famous McKenzie, less than 30 miles away. The Umpqua, is about an hour drive, the Siuslaw is about 1 1/4 hours, and many more coastal rivers as well. I would say the Columbia in the Portland area is about 2 1/2 hours, and Astoria at the Columbia's mouth is about 4 strong hours.
The community itself has a long history, and many old buildings still stand. There has been a resurgance of growth, and some new homes are currently being built. There is a fairly large population of senior citizens, and a total population about 9500. Outside of fishing nearby, there isn't much to do in town, but Eugene/Springfield, population 200,000 is about 30 miles North. Personally I like Cottage Grove, but I don't live there, I live in Eugene.

Before we bought the house where in now my wife and I made two offers on a place just west of town on Veatch rd. Disappointed when the deal fell thru but things worked out on a different place closer to Lorane and Eugene.

Spent a lot off years working in the C.G.,Lorane and Drain area, elkthumper and drachir pretty much say it all.My main concern in this area is the lack of good paying middle class jobs.I moved here with a job waiting, unless a person is in a similiar situation like you are,a move here could be tough.

We are currently building a house about 5 miles west of Cottage Grove. My wife grew up in this area and I to am small town grown. 1.5 years till our house will be ready. Can't wait to get out of the city life!

Here is the latest photo of our home, take on Thanksgiving day.

cottage grove is a great place to live. less than an hour from the umpqua, willamette, and mckenzie. not a lot to do in cg but probably a lot like brookings. also eugene isn't too away. also there is good hunting with lots of timber company land and NF not too far away. lots of nice places out of town w/ some acreage.

Thanks everybody.

I have a nice sled with a top, CR anchor system, etc., and will be offering some open seats when the springers arrive below Bonneville. Looks like the Willamette run won't allow much fishing, but we'll see. Anyway, Cottage Grove area ifishers wanting to fish on the Big C will be welcome aboard my boat.

That sounds good, I would love to fish with you.

I moved to Eugene 3 1/2 years ago, and sure don't miss the rat-race and hub-bub of PTown. Eugene fits me just fine.

I've only been to the annual Animal House Togo Party with a friend who lives in CG. That was fun.
