New to Ifish
Hello all, after reading the great information and camarderie on this page I finally registered.
I grew up south of Florence Oregon next to Siltcoos lake in the late 70s and early to mid 80s and my folks still live in the same house. What a great place to grow up fishing and hunting right out the back door.
I now live in Eugene and stay active through (big game, waterfowl and all types of fishing) many of the seasons. For years I have salmon fished and crabbed with family and friends and also spent a little time on a commercial black cod boat on the Heceta banks.
A story:
Growing up I used to see the dory fleet come into the Siuslaw to sell fish and I always wanted one. So, two years ago I purchased a well used 1974 Harvey Dory and rebuilt the boat over the couse of the next year. It was a learning experience that involved lots of sanding, fiberglass work, zolatone, eletronics and fuel tanks. I have to say it was addictive and one heck of a way to take my mind away from the office. I finally finished the boat (named it the Coho Cowboy, I still need to place the name on it) and started to fish it last summer out of Winchester Bay. It was interesting to see how many people had questions and postive comments at the ramp. Heck, we even managed to put a few fish in the box which made it all worth the effort!
I look forward to meeting some of you in the future and learning more about Halibut and this thing you call the dark side.

My first ocean trip in Oregon was out of Depoe, 1978 in a Harvey Dory.The owner still has the boat.Over the past couple of years I've seen two Harvey's salmon fishing out of Winchester same spots same times as me,must be some other old retired folks around.
BJ's on Coburg rd.the 16th. for the dark side.

Welcome Coho Cowboy. Hali fishing is great, but beware the dark side.... Don't know how many times we have gone past perfectly good hali grounds to chase tuna. And either too beat, or too plugged to bother stopping on the way back in.....
