Default 29 Dec DUCK hunt

Well my dad came over to visit and we did a little hunting while he was here.... For those of you who think this is a down year this is one of the best I have had!!!! But I have also done so much more scouting then ever before! I scout more then I hunt, I have gotten so tired of scouting, but the couple of times I went out with out scouting the hunting was not good, so I try and scout 2-3 days before the hunt and then I have an idea where to go.....
So anyways, we found a couple nice little water holes that were not freezzing when 75% of the water down here was, we saw alot of birds flying everyday, so we were not sure what spot to set-up in and so we kept driving around when we came upon another spot and at this time it was around 3:30 in the afternoon and we flushed about 300 hundered birds off of this spot. "I think we found where we are setting up in the morning" there was no sign of anybody being anywhere near this spot but we still wanted to get up ealry and be the first ones in there.
We got up around 4:30 and we were on the road by 5:00, My dad has had double knee replacement so he is not able to do alot, so we new we had alot to set-up, when we were driving in one of the other spots we found there were alot of birds that flushed and we wondered then if we should set-up there, but with are hearts set on the other spot, and not much cover to hide in on this spot we headed on.
After along 1hr or so we were set-up and ready, well along story short we did really well, But the spot where we saw all the birds in the morning might have been even better then are spot, all the birds were flying directlly over it. Don't get me wrong we did well and had a blast...
Also when it got lighter and we could see, somebody did come in behind us the day before, and I have know Idea what they did, but by the looks of there tracks they might have been jump shooting all the litte water holes, and through out the day my dog retreived 10 wounded birds, some of them might not have been wounded, when I made her release them ALL some of them flew away good but quit a few did not fly to well. Also in the spot we were set-up in we found 4 dead birds floating in the water, not sure what I should have done I started counting them as our limit because I didn't want the Law man to come up and ask about these 4 birds and why were 4 over are limit. But at the end of the day i tossed them, maybe that is wrong but I dind't know what else to do......
Not sure if the people in after us shot them up or what!!!!!
Anyways here are the pics

My bestfriend MY DAD also my second bestfriend Rylie (she will might be haven pups in a couple of months if anyone is interested)

How long have you been hunting around Buena Vista???
I grew up in Sydney, and me and my dad hunted out of B.V. almost every weekend of the season, I sure can't wait to move back up there and be able to hunt the old spots............
The last time we hunted there was some where around 2000 give or take a year that's when I moved away. If you hunted 2000 and later we might have ran into you a few times or atleast parked next to one another.

Who said I was hunting around B.V??? ....About the Time you moved away I had just moved back from 5 years out in Missouri and I have only hunted the willy a handful of times in the last 7 years...I normaly head west for about 70 percent of my hunting the other 30% would be anywhere there is ducks... I would be more than glad to keep the old spots warm for ya..LOL

Good looking shoot!

As for the "extra" birds. There is nothing wrong with ditching them. It is your choice. You can choose to take wounded or dead birds into your possession as part of your daily bag limit or just leave them lay.

CW,
that looks like a great day!!!.....I really hate hearing about the downed birds....but, I would have done the same...counting them as part of my limit.....and then leaving them behind. Especially not knowing how they were downed.......congrats on the hunt!
