Make sure you take scissors to them to make them fit properly. Tanner will thank you. Check the arm pit area and make sure he can lift his leg comfortabley.

I have had to trim the vest I bought a couple times. If they fit to tight under the arm pits they will rub them raw. I had to cut out a lot more then I had anticipated before it finally fit correctly.

Baltz,
Ruffwear is based in Bend so I'll bet you could run by their shop to get custom fitting session. The folks there are really friendly and helpful.

Baltz,
They are up in NW Crossing at:
Ruff Wear
561 NW York Drive
Bend, OR 97701
I'm not sure they have different pricing than their retail partners, but they may have some seconds that are available. Super nice folks and a whole bunch of super cute, dog friends gals work there so it's worth the trip one way or another.

I just bought my new pup a vest and trimmed it up and it still rubbed her raw. She is very long and small so it was hard to find a vest to fit. make sure your dog has plenty of room under the armpits. I made this mistake and could not hunt her for three weeks due to the rubbing. I have since bought her a vest from the benik corporation and it fits like a glove. They make a really nice vest and the price is right.

Lucy wears the avery boaters vest. The Large fits her well, and I really like the handle and the D rings are nice for tying her up. The floatation in the vest is pretty minimal. She can still fully sumberge without any trouble.

However, it comes with a couple nylon straps sewn in it, and sometimes I wonder if she can fully expand her lungs. But I am pretty sure the next size up would be uselessly too large.

She did alot of running around saturday and had just a hint of chafing under one front leg.

I had to re-sew the zipper back to the neoprene once as the stitching was coming out, about half way through the season.

Yep, Lil debbie sported an Avery until this weekend when the zipper ripped out! She came back without her jacket! Had to go find it and the zipper catch had fallen off. The retrieve was on flat land (no brush) so not sure how it really happened. It was tight at first but I contacted Avery and a guy named David Carrington called me back and walked me through the trimming required. Pretty helpful guy. I'd like to find a fleece jacket for her that she could wear when we are on a field hunt and no water to swim in. I really need to keep her camo'd because she wiggles when the geese and ducks are comming in and they see her. Any suggestions out there?

One of my off season goals is to condition Lucy to hunting out of a pop up dog blind and also to sit inside my layout with me.

I watched a waterfowl hunting show on VS. the other day and the hunting guide had a Lab that liked to lay under a huge goose decoy shell. The dog's head stuck out from under the breast area so it could watch the approaching birds and mark the downed ones. Pretty cool idea but I'm not how practical is would be

I have a Browning Duck Commander series zipper and velcrow 5mm neoprene dog vest. It worked for 4 years on our old chocolate lab Ziggy and now for 3 years on our yellow lab Boomer. I have sewn it up once, other then that it works great!

I tried other vests, the worst is the Avery 3mm neoprene, I get about a month out of them before they are torn to shreds. My buddy has a velcro only Avery and it keeps coming undone. Hunting on the river a lot I am uncomfortable with the newer vests with straps to lift the dog by as I want it to rip off if he gets stuck in the brush and no way it will break loose with the straps. Nice idea, just does not work for my situations.

Biggest thing is fit, it should be tight like a wetsuit and cut away around armpits and crotch so it does not rub him raw. Just my 2 cents

They may not be able to hunt for weeks. But alot of dogs after being rubbed DO not want to get into a vest again. They see it and their head goes the other way and tail between their legs. The look says oh nooooo not that thing. Some of the dogs I have seen donot have short term memorie on this one. They rember for alooooong time. One guy I know out Boardman way his dog will not wear a vest to this day.Happened at 11/2 years now is almost 7.
