Exclamation Mudslide on 126W

ODOT Region 2 - MUDSLIDE CLOSES HWY 126W BETWEEN EUGENE AND FLORENCE SPRINGFIELD – A large landslide containing mud, rocks and large trees has closed all lanes of Highway 126W at milepost 25, about 10 miles east of Mapleton near Linslaw County Park. The debris covering the highway at this location is up to 10 feet deep. The slide, reported just after 1 a.m. Sunday morning, follows weeks of heavy rain along the Central Coast and in the Willamette Valley. Oregon Department of Transportation maintenance crews are on scene and assessing the damage. It is unclear when the highway will be reopened. ODOT urges all motorists to avoid travel between Eugene and Florence if possible. Dozens of trees fell across Highway 126W between Noti and Mapleton starting on Saturday afternoon and continuing through the evening. The hazard trees along with snow caused several minor crashes on Saturday. Highway 36 is being utilized as a detour route between Eugene and Florence at this time. ODOT crews have removed several downed trees on Highway 36 as well as those on Highway 126W. Motorists driving both highways should use extreme caution and be wary of falling trees.

With all the South-Valley rivers blown, it looks like a Sunday of football

Thanks for the Update. I was on Lake Creek just this past Tuesday and the number of boats was pretty dramatic for a small stream, maybe a natural event like a mudslide is just what the fish need to ease the pressure. One can hope.

Wouldn't Highway 36 via Triangle Lake be closer/faster? MB.

As of this morning, Hwy 36 and 126 were both closed @ Mapleton.
126W is supposed to be closed for 3 days for tree and mudslide cleanup.
36 was closed because of trees.
