Question Maui in August?--need advice

Ok. I have a very well meaning extended family member who has planned a "family" trip to Maui Aug 11 -25:frown:. We can either not go, go for both weeks or go for either 8/11-16 or 8/17 -25.

I am the only one in the family who plans vacations against tide charts to determine good vacation times. August is usually totally committed to my ocean fishing and this is smack in the middle of some of my heaviest fishing. I will already be in Netarts for the fair 8/5-8/10, as that is the week I always take the bro-in-law from Seattle fishing.

What do y'all think?

Anyone who says go then how 'bout some maui fishing ideas? The well meaning member's husband is my regular fishing partner so we could get in trouble there I suppose...course I'm sure most charter captains won't try surfing their Arima's over the bar

Here you go my two cents. Been there quite a few times Fishing is always good last few times was great. Tuna (Yellowfin Bigeye Skipjack )great in August same goes for Billfish (Pacific blue, striped and shortbill). Mahimahi and Ono (wahoo) good. Trevally giant and bluefin GREAT. Bottomfish (Grey snapper Blue-line snapper and amberjack) good.
Fish Maui Capt. Mike Crawford
Maui Ho'okela Capt.Kim
I do not believe you can walk up you will need reservations.
I still do not think you need a license either.
Plenty of other charters just giving you a couple that have been Very good over the years.

If you have never been fishing in Hawaii it will be worth going.

OK I get it. I spent the first 5 years of my life on Oahu. But I happen to think that there are few better places in the world than the Oregon coast August - October....

Thanks for the suggested charters. I'll start checking them out.
