Is it compatable with vista? It doesn't say it is.

I've never been a big fan of registry cleaners; worst case scenario (which can easily happen) it can completely hose your system. And I would be especially leery of using one on a relatively new OS like Vista, all the changes Microsoft has made may not be completely documented. Just my .

You mentioned you had a problem with a program, I assume you tried uninstalling it and that wasn't completely successful? Try reinstalling it, reboot, and try uninstalling again.

I used to be a big Norton fan. I'm not anymore. There are good open source alternatives that won't bog your system down.

I would recommend CCleaner, I've never used it with Vista but it claims to be compatible. Just make sure to back up your registry before making any changes, messing with the registry is a little like playing with fire while soaked in gasoline. That being said it can sometimes speed up your system or fix stability issues that would otherwise require a fresh install of Windows. I usually stay away from registry cleaners unless I have a specific problem and then I look for a solution specific to my issue before mucking around in the registry. For instance you mentioned Norton which is notorious for leaving troublesome entries behind when you upgrade or uninstall it, the specific solution for this issue is to use the Norton removal tool(I believe Norton actually makes it) that removes all the files and registry entries that the uninstaller leaves behind.

the main thing is to know what you are doing when you get into the reg. most people that start messing with the reg only want to speed things up a bit and they do so before doing the basics first like dump history, temp files cookies on and off line content and defrag. a good spyware program can help clean things up too. just my two cents worth.....ive had to bail out more than one friend that got into the reg.

I think it was more of a problem with norton than anything else. My computer is fine now i have norton out of the system.Norton would freeze my computer up, it would bog it down and make it really slow.I completly uninstalled norton and now everything is fine, but with as new as vista is i like to keep a regisrty cleaner around for safe keepings.

avg has a great free antivirus program that has proven to be more aggressive than the other big two. did i mention it was free and works better
