I think they are just have to change the sights. Thompsons website doesn't show them so I assume they quit making them.

I'm not familiar with the Thompson black diamond. But, here's what you need to know, from page 38 of the 2008 Regs:

MUZZLELOADER
Scopes (permanent and detachable), fiber optics sights, sights that use artificial light or energy and sights that enhance, gather, or concentrate
natural light are not allowed during muzzleloader-only seasons and 600 series hunts where there is a weapon restriction of shotgun/muzzleloader
only or archery/muzzleloader only. Open and peep sights made from alloys, plastic, or other materials that do not have the properties described
above are legal sights.
It is illegal to hunt with jacketed bullets, sabots and bullets with plastic or synthetic bases during muzzleloader-only seasons and 600 series hunts
where there is a weapon restriction of shotgun/muzzleloader only or archery/muzzleloader only. Round balls and conical lead or lead alloy bullets
with a length that does not exceed twice the diameter and cloth, paper or felt patches are allowed.
It is illegal to hunt with centerfire primers as an ignition source during muzzleloader-only seasons and 600 series hunts where there is a weapon
restriction of shotgun/muzzleloader only or archery/muzzleloader only.
It is illegal to hunt with pelletized powders or propellants during muzzleloader-only seasons and 600 series hunts where there is a weapon restriction
of shotgun/muzzleloader only or archery/muzzleloader only. Granular (loose) black powder and black powder substitutes are the only legal
propellants during muzzleloader-only seasons and 600 series hunts where there is a weapon restriction of shotgun/muzzleloader only or archery/
muzzleloader only.
No other firearm may be used for hunting during a muzzleloader-only season. See definition on page 90.
Muzzleloading firearms with revolving actions are prohibited during muzzleloader-only seasons and 600 series hunts where there is a weapon
restriction of shotgun/muzzleloader only or archery/muzzleloader only.
For muzzleloader-only seasons and 600 series hunts where there is a weapon restriction of shotgun/muzzleloader only or archery/
muzzleloader only, the muzzleloader must have an open ignition. See definition on page 90.

Yes they are legal in Oregon. All you have to do is replace the fiber optic sights. TC will send you some white beads to replace the fiber optics. And make sure it has the # 11 or musket cap nipple installed and your good to go. They did discontinue the black diamond last year but there are a few around still.

Yep, thats the gun I use here in Oregon. Replace the fiber-optic pins with white pins available from t/c (Joes usually has them behind the firearms counter also) and use a musket cap or #11 cap. Mine likes #11 magnum caps. Most tend to like 95-100 grains of ff powder and a 350 grain maxi-hunter bullet.

Seems like the best thread to ask my question without starting a new thread. Will be borrowing a BD Express for speedgoat hunt next month and already have prelubed .50 caliber 320 package of T/C bullets. After carefully reading the two manuals from T/C for this I noted some differences in "suggested loads". The "System 1" manual seems to be the one for the older version, legal in Oregon and Washington and has the more conservative loads. Too bad discontinued but maybe enough are kicking around for those seekers. Both manuals mention Mag Express™ which is etched on my barrel.

Here's the summary of the loads, I plan to go with the System 1 as guideline unless someone here has better reason. Pardon any transcription errors.
