Default Night before Xmas (now with the ending)

Anyone feel like re-creating the "Night Before Christmas" poem with a little Salty Dog twist?

We did something similar a few years back. I'll start it:

"Twas the night before Christmas and on the open ocean,
The boats were afloat and the rods were in motion.
The handlines were set on the railing just right,
In hopes Charlie tuna was out there tonight...................."

Looks like I might be on my own on this one? :Christmas: :lurk:

......the fishermen were huddled all snug in their chairs,
with visions of quads, and triples, and pairs.
The skipper at the helm, and me in my cap,
The waves rocked the boat and we started to nap...

When all of a sudden I awoke from my dream,
As the rods in the transom started to scream.
We ran to the back, I and my friend,
But as fast as it started it came to an end.

We looked in amazement, "How could this be?"
The beast came unhooked and went back to the sea.
We cursed and we moped and we proceeded to pack
Our pride in the dumps, it was time to head back.

But just as we left the famed tuna grounds,
A flickering light in the distance was found.
It quickly came closer and soon we could see,
It was a shiny red boat with the name "Christmas Glee."

It was that exact moment that caused us to pause.
Because the skipper of that craft was "thee" Salty Claus.
Sure enough it was he and four happy elves,
All trolling for tuna, content with themselves.

Then just as they passed their gear all hooked up,
Old Salty just smiled and put down his cup.
His crew waiting patiently he called them by name,
"Boecephus and Bubba, Johnny and James,"

"Grab the rods quick it's Charlie for sure!"
"I told you that's why we use red & white lures!"
The elves worked the gear like a well seasoned crew,
Reeling in fish and gaffing them too.

Salty Claus had red boots, his pant legs tucked in
His belly hung out......like my friend Puffin.
His bright red jacket, all blood stained and ripped,
His smile looked odd from a tooth that he'd chipped....

This poem will never be the official poem of the OTC because it makes reference to blue cord.:Christmas:

Looks like I have to finish it.

........

Well Mr. Charlie Tuna was the cause of his chip
The brute snapped the line and the pole it did whip
Now old Salty Claus has a grudge that he must settle
He's changed all his line and his poles are now all metal

With one rod still a buzzin ol' Claus took his turn
He cranked the drag a few more times and saw the washers burn
"It's him! It's him!" he shouted, while dancing round with joy
"Bubba grab the wasabi and James get the soy!"

He cranked and reeled and reeled and cranked, there seemed no end in sight
But hours later, just before dawn, the critter lost its fight.
The elves prepared, with gaffs in hand, to snatch the fish below
but just as they began to swing Ol' Salty said, "Let's go!"

"We have no time to deal with this, the children must come first"
So he cut the line and patted the beast as though this was rehearsed
They pulled the lines and stowed the gear and began to take a seat
Then Salty Claus came to the back, it seemed we were to meet

"Howdy boys, it's been a hoot but now our time has come"
"Mrs. Claus will have my hide if we don't cut and run!"
With that he ran up to the helm and threw the throttles down
They blasted cross the ocean and were headed back to town.

I think its time to wrap this up, and I think its only fitting
The best way we can finish this tale is to use the same old ending.

But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Merry Christmas and Best Fishes everyone.

Now that's why I joined Ifish. Good fun, good humor, people taking time to enjoy each other around fishing the pond.

I truely hope you all have a GREAT holiday season
and may we be blessed
with another tuna season
like the one just put to rest.

Okay so the rhyme isn't that good, you get the message.

I love it, Rod! The one on the main community is pretty funny, too!

I think we need you to finish this one!
