Hey, Derek.I see you aren't getting any replies. I bet some guys in the Salem area would like to introduce a new guy to hunting, but folks would probably feel more comfortable if you had a hunter's safety class or had spent some time w an instructor or friend who hunts. As the VP and other incidents have showed, a lot can go wrong. Your post makes folks a little reluctant to include you in a hunt, so maybe you would have more luck if you indictated you have read some books or watched safety videos- most hunters consider safety THE first step to being a sucessful hunter.. I bet you have a lot of fishing experience, and maybe you could find somone you fish w who would take you on a hunt-w/o a gun,maybe- before you jump in. Don't mean to be discouraging, but I bet you could get hunter safety instruction--or maybe you have? Hang in there, as many hunters love intrducing folks to the sports, but want some assurance their fellows in the blind know the basics. Hope that helps.

TH's reply has good points. You also may get more responses if you say what type of hunting you're interested in i.e. big game, birds, etc...

Re: need hunting partner?
I live in Salem.
Give us some history about yourself and we'll see what we can work out. I hunt more than anything else since I am a TERRIBLE fisherman, but always willing to learn something new.

Eggy,
Your personal profile lacks any information. I bow hunt; however, I enjoy helping young people learn how to hunt. I am no expert, but I know the basics and spend a lot of time in the woods. There is a lot to hunting. Preperation is the most important. You need basic gear and knowledge of how to use it.
In addition, finding a place to hunt is key to success, so you should prepare to do a lot of pre-season scouting in the months prior to the season opener.
There are a few hunting organizations that are easily accessible and can be a great place to network with hunters and gain information on how to start your hunting career. I recomend Oregon Hunter's Assn. It cost a whopping $25.00 a year and you get a wealth of information.
Good luck!
