Default Clackamas River Notification

Hello all to all the IFSIH community, it has been sometime since I have posted. This is mainly because we have had a very safe and responsible fall/winter boating season on the Clackamas River. We are seeing more and more life jackets out there and the IFISH board has played a large part in spreading the word that “Life Jackets don’t work, if you don’t wear them”!

Anyhow, I wanted to let all the Clackamas River users know that we have 3 new Fire Department Rescue Boat drivers assigned to our team. I will be on the Clackamas River with these eager individuals next Tuesday through Friday (2/17-20th) running them through the Whitewater Rescue Boat and Whitewater Boat operators’ curriculum. We will be on the lower river Tuesday and Wednesday and on the upper river from Barton to McIver on Thursday and Friday. Since I have 3 students this time I will have to run up and down the river more than usual so please excuse our wake. We make it a priority that every operator we certify be cognizant of the fishing community and make every attempt to make our presence as low as impact as possible.

Feel free to drop me an email if you have questions and tight lines for all.

Clackamas County Fire District #1

EAGLE CREEK -- A 21-year-old man was rushed to the hospital on Thursday night after he slipped into the icy waters of Eagle Creek in Clackamas County.

Clackamas County rescuers pulled the man and his father from the creek near Estacada about 5 p.m. Father and son were fishing at the fish ladder, said Capt. Jaime Karn, a spokesman for Clackamas Fire District No. 1. The son, who hasn't been identified, was attempting to move a log when he slipped and fell.

He his head on an object, and he slipped into unconsciousness, Karn said. The father was in the water attempting to hold his head up for more than 20 minutes.

He remained unconscious when he was transported to Oregon Health and Sciences University Hospital by LifeFlight helicopter, Karn said. His condition is described as serious and is suffering from hypothermia.

Stir it up as much as you like. Having well trained rescue crews is the top priority.

Keep up the outstanding work!!

Thanks for the heads up. Do what you have to do to train these new drivers and make them the best rescuers around.

Keep up the great work!!!!
