Military friend in need of housing supplies
I have a real close friend, the Brother type, that is stationed at Ft. Lewis Wa. He just got custody of his teenage son and had to move off post. He has nothing other than the seat out of his van, and a mattress for his son to sleep on. I know its a long shot, but was hoping someone up near there might have some furnishings laying around in the attic or shed. The apartment he has only has a couple of overhead lights. He really needs some stuff like tables and lamps. I gave him my aero bed to use since he has been sleeping on the livingroom floor. With all of the storm damage and people donating things there, I know its a long shot. I donated the extra stuff I had here to help out the folks in Vernonia. If you can help, I would be eternally grateful. You can PM me here and I'll put you in touch with him. Thanks in advance!

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
I just unloaded all I had this past summer. Wish I had more. So, I just checked craigslist and there's lots of furniture listed as free.

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
I have a hide-a-bed couch that is in decent shape. Light beige to cream in color.
My wife and I would love to donate to a serviceman.
The only issue is how to get it to him. He would have to make arrangements to pick up.
Please let me know if he would like it.

If he needs it, I can drive it up. I might need a little help. I have a lot of stuff, as I am moving everything to storage soon.

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
PM sent...
I've got a single couch hideabed I don't need and don't want to simply toss.
I'm also going to Olympia a week from today (Sunday) to pick up my mother and bring her down. I've got a utility trailer and a pickup and could take him the couch and whatever else you collect.
Need to know by Tuesday night, though, since the trailer is full of goose decoys right now and I'll have to go hunting (oh darn!) to bring it home.

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
I have a 50in Mitsubishi projection TV that is an older model but is "as new". We got a new tv so this is available and I need to get it out of the house before the holidays. It would be great if we could help out a soldier in need.
It is a fairly big tv, so space could be an issue in a small apartment, but let me know if he could use it.
If someone is making a run up there, especially with a covered trailer, let me know and I can try and drop it off.
I will watch this thread to see if you are heading up there.

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
I will call him tonight after work and see what we can arrange. I know he'll appreciate whatever he can get. He's the real modest type and would never ask anyone for anything. Hence the sleeping on the floor for the past few weeks. I'll post back tonight, but I am sure that he would love to have the sofa sleeper Bill, if you are going that way. If I can figure out how to get you and John together, that would be great. I live east of salem, and don't get off of work till 4. I really appreciate all of your help. Just proves once again that there is no better fisher than an Ifisher!!!!!!!!!! You all are great.

He just moved a few weeks ago. Really has nothing there. He signed up full time after 20 years in the guards to try to make a better life for him and the kids. I am not real sure what his schedule is like until the 22. He has block leave from then until the 2nd of Jan. I will call him wednesday evening and post back. I am pretty sure he is in the field thru the morning. Thanks again

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
I will go this weekend and get him a decent set of dishes/glasses and silverware. Also have a matching coffee table and 2 end tables. My wife is going thru our kitchen appliances so sure some of that can go too. I work in an office on Camp Murray and will ask for donations for foodstuff. I am off all next week so if anyone is headed up from Oregon i am available to help unload.

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
Ok,
Here is an update. He just got a used sectional sofa / hide-a-bed from the neighbor across the complex. I will be heading up there next weekend to take some stuff up there. He won't be able to make it down for the holidays. he does need kitchen supplies, but it sounds like Bikenut64 has most covered. I need to figure out where Hillsboro is and see if we can meet to get the dresser on Saturday. He said thanks for the offer of the television, but it won't go in the apartment. Lots of stairs and a smaller place. He does have one that I gave him last trip down. He does have a microwave. Thats how he heats up dinner. I will PM mrgamby and try to coordinate getting the table and chair for him.
Its funny, the wife used to give me grief for spending too much time reading posts here . Now she sees what a great bunch of guys and gals you are. No complaining from her now.
Ron said to tell everyone thank you for all of the wonderful offers. If he had a computer and internet, he would join up and post himself. You all know how priorities go!! Thank you again from me. Its nice knowing if there is a friend in need, there are always people ready to help. Its truly an honor to roam amongst you all!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
Our old buddy "RvW" is in the Vancouver area and can donate the use of a brand new 6x10 enclosed trailer to haul stuff up there with. Standard 2 inch ball. Has all adapters for the lights.
Only requirement is that the person hauling it has comp insurance, and the trailer is not left anywhere it may be stolen or broken into. Needs to be returned by Christmas day.
Give him a call 971 218 6283 his name is doug.
I have some stuff to donate too but Im too far south.

I have a surround sound system with a 5 disc dvd player that I'd be willing to donate. Plays cd's too even if they don't use if for the television.

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
PM me or call me with his number- I'll make a list of what I have at the house, and get ahold of him...I may have a bed or 2, and a TV, and other items that he could use. I can deliver.
Also, we've got a couple of open seats for Christmas dinner that need to be filled ......
I live in Gig Harbor, about 20 miles from Ft Lewis.

I have an oak entertainment center that is in good shape that I think he would appreciate. He would have to move it or have someone pick it up.

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
Followup:
Ron and Damon (15 yr old son) just left. We had them over for Christmas dinner, and all had a great time. We were able to bless him with some funds for Christmas, as well as some items for his home.
Damon is a great kid, and Ron is very down to earth and humbled by the help that's being offered.
Thanks for the opportunity to help! Merry Christmas to all!
Pete, Teresa, and family/friends.

Thanks Pete!!!!
Ron said that funds didn't allow him down here for the holidays. It truly reinforces the fact that there are still good people on this Earth. I will be heading up Saturday and hopefully meeting a few people on the way.

Re: Military friend in need of housing supplies
Thank YOU!!!!!!!!!!
To everyone here for their contributions. The good thoughts and prayers were a blessing. Just returned home from a trip up there. Ron said to tell everyone Thank You!. He is very grateful. He seems to have enough to keep him functional. Scary deal last night around 10:30 p.m. One of his downstaris neighbors left a pan on the stove and it filled the area with a rancid smoke. We thought we were going to have to start loading things into my truck.. No fire, just a complex full of stinky smoke. Once again, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It was nice to meet you Rich and John. Brad, it was very nice to meet your father. Very nice man.
