Default Lings & crabs Windy Bay

Had such a great day out of Winchester,(12-12) wanted to let everyone know. Left Florence at 7a.m. Cold east wind blowing 15+.We figured give it a try anyway. Blowing worse down there, but when sun came up, it seemed to be dying alittle, so what the heck, got to give it a go. Bar was good, dropped 6 pots outside, and headed out. Ocean was great. Eight miles &30 minutes later we were dropping our gear. First bounce, 2nd copilot caught 40"er. First ling EVER for him. He was on cloud 9. In less than 2 hrs.(4short drifts) the newbie caught his 2nd, and my pardner & I each limited out. None less than 34". To make the day even better, got back in 30 min. pulled pots, & got 36 BIG crabs. Doesn't happen that often in wintertime. Almost backed out, sure glad we didn't. Wasn't meaning to make a long story out of this, but what the heck. Reading isn't all that bad. All of you Salty Dogs have a great Holidays, & may Santa heap your stockings with new fishing "stuff" for the upcoming season.

Very nice. Hard to beat a fresh ling dinner.

Did we put our pots N or S of the entrance?

I am going to have to try the lings they sound like great fish to eat. What do you use for your lings, jigs or bait?

We just fish the same as we do for Butts. Herring or shad strips seems to work well. I guess when they are on the bite, most anything will work. As far as the crab, we went south to the 2 buttes, and in about 30' of water. A couple of other boats that went with us for lings had dropped pots also, didn't do as well as we did, but they were using different baits. I think it makes a difference, but am not sure. We were using pink fin & shad carcasses, and that has worked for us. Ready for another trip. Merry Xmas to all.

Hey Highgrader - Did you use the white wiggly tail sample from "DEEP HOLE BAIT CO". Please say that you did and the lings were hit'n it like crazy. Trying to put some anise oil in the mix and see if it will work
