I can say I have never shot a spoonie. That's not to say I have never shot at one. I would have shot one yesterday.

The guys that hunt with me know, that i've already talked about killing a limit of drakes towards the end of the season when they're all colored up!

Who's with me

Aaron...YOU WOULD HAVE TO PULL THE TRIGGER FIRST TO GET A LIMIT OF ANYTHING

I just bought stock in Federal Amunition due to the amount of shot shells I buy...you on the other hand are probably still using shells out of the same 4 boxes you bought last year.

Great Northern Shovler, "Hose Nose," "The Rodney Dangerfield of Ducks," "Poor Man's Mallard," often seen siphoning algae from sewage lagoons, they fill an important ecological niche in wetlands health--but not on my strap.

Yeah, I never see any other kinds puddlers sucking goo at the sewage lagoons.

Spoonies, the "other" greenhead! Fully plumed drake is the one of the prettiest ducks in the marsh.

Aaron you know I'm in, but I would like to find a place that only has spoonie's. Cause I can easily be tempted to stray from the path.

Hard to argue with that ! A nice mature drake sure makes a nice mount though.

I have a budy that works for the city of Washougal. He always tells of the great laughs he gets when he drives into the treatment facility and the ducks flush off the ponds and fly toward Reed Island. He says right after the ducks dissapear over the row of cottonwoods along the river you can hear the shots ring out.

I dont have any shame. I'll hunt the Vancouver treatment pond, I mean lake anytime.

There's nothing wrong with the tastes of a spoonie, has some for dinner last week.

They are prone to have ''rice breast'' and hence I ''try'' not to shoot them. As for their looks, I just can't get past the shovel.....

I shot one yesterday out at Sauvies...along with a teal. Just soaked them in buttermilk over night and pan seared them up for lunch...both tasted amazing.

If I get a permit for January at Ridgefield, then count me in. If you really want to make it a challenge, specify it as being all hens.

If anyone wants a limit of spoonies, just head over to the Ridgefield NWR. They are thick in there.

I personally have been trying without success to put myself in a position to get my 25 limit of coots with the least amount of shots. So far I can't seem to get anything other than singles which only gets the sour look from my dog. She hates the taste in her mouth!!

The coot challenge should be 25 with the least amount of shells and then what recipe you used and who you fed it to

That has got to be one of the ugliest stringers of ducks I have ever seen. Couldn't you have at least thrown in a nice colorful drake or two for color.

I wil admit...I have put a few in the bag. But I sure don't make a habit of it.

He also had a top 10 list he made up on the fly about spoonies....it was pretty funny.

They make him look like a world class caller
They always make him feel good about his decoys
They make him feel like a spectacular shot because if you hit one and dont kill him with the first shot they sometimes come back around for a second look....

I like that guy.
