Taurus or Ruger
Considering getting a new .357 revolver. Looking at a Ruger GP100 or a Taurus Tracker. Anyone have any experience with either or both?

Re: Taurus or Ruger
Of the two I would lean towards the Ruger. The GP is an extremely solid, time proven old lawman gun. I don't know what your needs are, but if you are outdoors a lot you might also consider the Ruger SP101. It is an ultra sturdy stainless 5 shot. I carry one of those as a fish gun when in black bear country. Brownie country however gets the 18" slug gun

Re: Taurus or Ruger
I would give the nod to the Ruger GP over the SP due to the adjustable rear sights. The SP101 has fixed rear sights that are preferred by some in a concealed carry weapon simply because they don't hang on clothes where the adjustable sights can. I would be buying the gun to plink around with, so I would go for the adjustable sights. If you are worried about big bears, Ruger does make the Redhawk that is chambered for the .454 Casull round and is available in sizes down to the 2" barrel model. If you go for the little 2" model you might want to be close.

Re: Taurus or Ruger
I like the Taurus because it is lighter than the GP and holds 7 rounds, but I think Ruger has a better reputation for quality.
I will be using the gun for plinking and for protection when backpacking, fishing, etc. Has anyone had any specific experience with Taurus?

Re: Taurus or Ruger
I have a Taurus Tracker in .44 Mag it's an ok hand gun it hits what I'm aiming at and shoots every time I pull the triger. I have a couple of Taurus hand guns and both took a lot of rounds through them to get them dialed in. I had an old Ruger security six and that was one of the best hand guns I've ever had. I would say if you have a choice I would go with the Ruger over the Taurus. Thats just my opinion, hope it helps.

Re: Taurus or Ruger
My wife has a Tarus revolver and my son has the Ruger. Both are fine guns but I'd probably go with the Ruger.

Re: Taurus or Ruger
I have a Taurus Tracker Titanium in .44 Mag, 5 shot 2" barrel . No complaints, very light and comfortable to carry. The Magna ported barrel and rubber grips are very nice options.

Re: Taurus or Ruger
I have Taurus handguns now and I have had Rugers in the past. I think if I had the money for either I would go with the Ruger, they just seem to be manufactured better. My Tauruses are fine and at the time I got them Ruger didn't have a .454 Casull handgun. I am happy with my Taurus and I have put a ton of rounds through it probably way more than the manufacturer ever thought anyone would put through it and it still is in top working order but eventually I will probably get a .480 by Ruger or .45-70 from Magnum Research.

Re: Taurus or Ruger
I had bought a new 1995-ish Taurus .357 revolver before, and would never own another due to quality problems. I currently have Ruger Autos, and 10/22, and have been very happy with them but have not tried a Ruger revolver.
Taurus may well have improved by now, but I'm not giving them another penny of my hard earned $$ to see, especially with other options I know I'm happy with.

Ruger all the way. Taurus is a lot lower quality firearm.

Re: Taurus or Ruger
Ruger, time and field tested/proven, and made in USA. Is there honestly a debate going on here or are we just typing to avoid talking to our wives?
