Favorite Training/Handling Whistle
Any thoughts out there on your favorite Training/Handling Whistle, audible/inaudible? Loud/quiet? Or do you even use one?

Re: Favorite Training/Handling Whistle
On windy days, I would recommend a whistle that has a megaphone type attachment so you can direct the whistle towards the dog. It would be very bad to be correcting the dog for not responding to the sit whistle if it cannot hear it. You have several types, ie, gonia clear competition whistle with the blk megaphone attached to it. Then you have the Green Monster that has a very unique and loud sound. The green monster is quite spendy and is not very durable. You can find these whistles on any of the dog training suppy co. HT

Make sure it is horn or plastic. When it's cold the metal ones can stick to your lips!!! The plastic gonias and acmes are relatively cheap in case you need to buy a couple to find one your dog responds to best.

Re: Favorite Training/Handling Whistle
I've had good luck with a Fox 40, very loud. I think I'll take HT's advice and get one of the megaphone type with my next dog to blow the sound away from my ears and more towards the dog.

Re: Favorite Training/Handling Whistle
Do get the megaphone type (two btw, in case one freezes or gets plugged up), stay away from the foxes and storms. Unless you want to get to 47 and say "huh?", a lot. Training whistles are tough on your ears.

Re: Favorite Training/Handling Whistle
Gonia Mega or a Green Monster. The green monster hurts my ears after being next to somebody blowing it all day FWIW.

Fox 40.
Dont care for the megaphone when hunting, already to much around my neck.
Remember peas can freeze.
