I am so ready for this year to end........
We started this year with a one year old daughter that had seemed to have some hypotonia (poor muscle tone) problem. After months of physical therapy and not much improvement we were sent to a neurologist that prescribed some tests including a CT scan. After what seemed like a long time waiting to hear some results we contacted our neurologist on a friday morning just to set our minds at ease They wanted to see us but could only do so Monday morning. Anytime they won't give you any info over the phone it cannot be good. We sweated out the weekend and on a few hours of sleep went in to see the the neurologist. Our little girl was diagnosed with Dandy Walker Variant. Not knowing what Dandy Walker Variant was, I spent quite some time in the internet and found that thankfully, our daughter had a very mild case. They expect
her to be able to walk with difficultyand with some work lead a pretty much normal life. She took her first unassisted steps a couple of weeks before her 2nd birthday. My 6 year old daughter sent us to the emergency room for stitches, My 3 year old took a header and needed a CT scan....No concussion....She was diagnosed with "probable" Dandy Walkers Variant. Not really noticable with her, but she was a late walker. My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary in a nice little condo on the beach. It was beautifull....... Then on our way out of the parking lott, my wife sideswiped a pickup and we met a very nice guy. Now my wife's car is getting ready to kick the buckett.... There went the big screen:frown: I guess I get to watch Bones and CSI on my laptop for a few more months
Come on January

2007 has not been a good year for me either. I am optimistic for the upcoming year though. I am determined to get things turned around. I wish you the best with your kids. Good luck in 2008.

Re: I am so ready for this year to end........
We have had a similar run this year on our medical insurance. 1st I start with incredible pains in the abdomen, after a couple bouts I get a ultra scan.. nada.. while that is going on the wife gets pains and the Shanghai doctors say.. could be cancer.. we jump around for a month and their tests are done poorly.. So my issue takes a back seat.. we fly to HK for a week of test and exploritory surgery .. End result.. nada.. tubal cyst most likely. Then back to me,, I still have pain episodes.. but nobody can pin point.... After 9 months of pain.. I go to the E-room.. and in China that can be a concern - note the bad call on the cancer. I get an appedectomy.. apparently burst.. and had burst many times before. OK.. done with medical
nope.
The oldest boy.. age 6 decide he is superman,, leaps from the desk to his bed.... and comes up short. Cuts his family jewels wide open.. I mean wide open. Now he gets a run to the E-room where he collects many stitches down there.
Stiches are out.. everything seems in order.. now it is a race to January 1, where we will scream "we made it!"
So merry xmas to everybody.. and come on happy new year.

I too had a VERY difficult year, BUT, lets think about the others out there as well. The soldiers who gave their life so we can live the way we do.
I can't wait to bring in the new year with hope, but I try to remember my situation in light of what some are going through.
LiveLarge, it sounds like you have quite the unfortunate situation and I hope everyone in your family recovers.
Godspeed,
D

Many feel our lives are somewhat pre-determined. Sometimes you wonder what were we thinking if such is the case! Many are confronted with very difficult life situations, and those situations can feel so unfair. Keep your faith, and grasp the good tightly as you can because the bad seems to always want to grab you when you let go of whats good.
I'm also awaiting a MRI of my wife, that they will not discuss on the phone. We'll hear what they have to say today, and persevere through it one way or another like always.
Hang in there and hold what you have dearly!

I also feel every thing is for a reason. One second either way I wouldn't be a happy married man. 2008 is just around the corner.Glad every thing is turning out OK for all.

Re: I am so ready for this year to end........
I'm normally not one who believes in "a bad year", but I too am soooo ready for this year to end. In january I was diagnosed with a neurological condition that might leave me disabled, or it might be nothing - they just can't tell.... In february we lost my wifes dad to lung cancer. In april my dad had quadruple bypass surgery. In may, dad spent 8 days back in the hospital for severe staph infection, followed by a month of outpatient IV treatment. In July we began seeing a neuologist for Dad to begin treatment for what appears to be early alzheimers. In August, our first born baby girl was married to a wonderful young man, a blessing, but still hard on mom and dad. In september the heating system on our commercial building failed, resulting in a $29000 replacement we had absolutely no plans for (so much for having a little extra cash every month). In October my mother passed out hitting the floor face first - looks like she took a huge punch with two ugly black eyes, so now we are dealing with cardiologists and neurologists for her... In november we traded in our one year old jeep, which had problems the dealer could not / would not resolve, and took it in the shorts big time for that drive it off the lot value drop. And finally, in December to make a merry christmas, my wife, who's former employer / dentist told her she had great teeth, went to a new dentist and found about $5000 worth of work needed that her old boss evidently didn't want to take care of at his cost; a week later I get a tooth ache and need a crown and root canal, and now, next week my son goes in for his wisdom teeth out.... Wow!!!!
Maybe the worst part of all, was with all this going on, my boat never made it out of the garage in 2007:frown:.
I know God gives us challenges to make us stronger, and after this year I feel like a world champion weight lifter . Despite all this, I feel so many blessings during the year, but boy, it sure hasn't been an easy one.
I too look forward to 2008!

Re: I am so ready for this year to end........
Seems many of us have had challenges this year that have really taxed our emotions, finances, faith, and courage. I've too have been there this year.
Many of you followed my fathers heart attack thread this spring and how we had our lives turned upside down from what seemed a hopeless situation to an absolute thrill that the surgeons could actually do something for him and give him a quality of life we never expected. God's hand was definitly in this one.
My college bound daughter gave us a few issues this year too. Thankfully she has a good heart and got her head screwed back on straight. She is a blessing.
The down turn in the economy did not help me out either. Slower than normal sales meant tightening the belt a notch or three in August and September and October. Seems we turned that corner also.
Then in just a few days I turn the big 45. Man, life sure goes quicker each and every year. I remember as a kid hearing elders say that as you get old life goes faster. It is true!
But you know what? We all have an much to be thankful for even in our pain and disappointment. Think about the good things, I know it can be hard, but there is good out there to focus on. Have a wonderful and Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Re: I am so ready for this year to end........
For me the new year is always a new beginning.
I've been in pretty bad pain for two years. In an hour I leave for the hospital to undergo a fusion of the spine. I will be laid up hard for a couple weeks, and as the new year breaks, I will be walking pain free..............

Re: I am so ready for this year to end........
read my tag line. All in all though, I had a great year. Things went well for me and my family other than the usual bumps and scrapes. I am one to tend to look at all the little things and this year it seems to have all started to change to the big picture. For that, I am thankful.

Re: I am so ready for this year to end........
Man it's been a rough one for us too. Trying to sell a house that's dropped 100k in value in less than a year, cleaning up $4,000 worth of damage from an idiot tenant on our rental property. My wife and I both got cuts at work...
But we're set now. January 2008 we will be in Oregon come hell or high water. No job lined up yet, no rental home secured.. but we'll be there anyway.
Here's to new beginnings.
