The Red Cross because they are a National Organization, they can pull people from around the nation (and they did in Vernonia) to feed the workers and the victims They are very proficient at processing the mountain of paperwork, necessary for the victims to receive federal and local aid. Whether it's an apartment fire down your street or a hurricane in New Orleans, they gear up accordingly. And they are good at it.
All of the people and organizations who work to help victims, do so because there is a need. Supporting them financially or by volunteering or both, is rewarding.
There will always be a need for help. And thankfully there will always be folks like you to fill that need.
