Default A Slow day of duckin

My wife left for a business trip so it has just been me and the kids. So, I decided to take today off work and do some scouting and hunting. There was an area I was interested in hunting but didn't want to have my first trip there in the dark.

So, this morning I dropped the kids off at daycare/school and headed out.
Had the boat launched by 8:00 am. Scouted for about an hour. Scared up 3 mallards along the way.

I found a spot that looked promising, so I set some deeks and blind. Since I had most of the day I figured I'd give this spot a try for an hour or two. Didn't see one duck in two hours. Time for more scouting.

Checked out a few more areas and made lots of mental notes. Then I found another area that looked good. It was a little tricky getting in but once in I thought if anything was flying I would have a shot.

Hung out in this spot for awhile and didn't see anything but cormarants and lots these.

Other then the geese the most movement I saw was from

Cali was ready to go early in the day

Cali has had a very slow year with only 2 ducks to her credit so far this season. She gave up waiting on ducks.

If the ducks had been flying this is what they would have seen.

I finally called it and did some training with Cali. She was pretty rusty since we hadn't really trained lately, we have been hoping to actually get some ducks.

As I was heading back to the boat ramp I noticed an area that needed to be checked out. And of course I find about 4 dozen ducks back in this area. That's just my luck. Another mental note. No time to hunt I have kids to pick up.

All in all a very slow day, but it was good to be on the water and it was better then being at work.

Cali is a great looking dog, and that blind is top notch... You will get into em, just need the weather to push em up and around some... they will not see the blind... that's for sure.

WHAT! There's a bass boat under there!?!?
Very nice Mike! Boy she sure is a good looking pup!!
But I think that look of hers is one of FIND ME SOME DUCKS!
Keep at it, you'll find their X. Just keep in mind the afternoon's are typically better there.
