Default Hood Canal Help

I may be at Hood Canal this weekend. I don't think it's open for crabbing yet. Any fishing in the Tahuya (sp?) area? I wouldn't mind bonking a salmon or steelie for the barbeque. Any local knowledge would be helpful. Thanks.

If you go a bit farther north, you can fish off Port Townsend starting later this month. There is a good article about it in the new Salmon and Steehead Journal. Maybe they would know more over at www.piscatorialpersuits.com (the Ifish of WA state).

Slabhunter, I was just wondering who said Hood Canal crabbing will open in June? Is that on WDFW's site or is that the historic re-opening time for the Canal? This time last year we were hammering them off Tahuya.

I believe the June 1 date is in the new regulation package. I did talk to WDFW in Olympia and they confirmed June 1 for crab in area 12.

Hood Canal opens Feb. 14 for one chinook, min. size 22''. Crab will open in June. Most locals troll with 'riggers 120-165' down within a few feet of bottom. Look for baitfish, once you find them that's the area you want to concentrate on. Good luck fishing!
