Scouting Trip!!!
Well I had 3 hours before work today so I decided to go look at a stream close to where I live. I drove around for about two hours and found many nice runs but I was too lazy to put my waders on so I decided today would be just a scouting day . Then I ran into the only two other fishermen I saw all day (two local old timers) and after talking to them for a while they told me that the Christmas hole down bellow is a good place when the fish were in... (But its still early). I thanked them and decided to give it a try since I could fish it without having to put my waders on... 15 min went by and I was ready to leave for work. On my 4th "last cast" I hit this seam that I had been neglecting and the indicator twitched, then sunk. I set the hook on something heavy . The fish never jumped so I couldn't tell what it was but from the way it went upstream right away and did circles around the hole I could have bet money that it was a nook. Thank god it didn't make a run for the ocean because I couldn't have stopped it... well here is what I got...
Second biggest steelhead I've ever caught Not bad for a first fish of the year. Took me over 15 min to land and yes I did fill up the boots Guess what I'm doing tomorrow .
Hope everyone is doing good! They're here!

Yeah, because its not on the river you think it is on . And good guess on the timer.
Hey Andy... thanks for jinxing me... Nick already got another 34 incher today . That fish looked identical to mine (I saw it in person). Its gonna be a good winter .

I still say it will be tough to beat that steelhead this month; maybe there will be a couple 36 inch plus fish by the end of the competition!
Let me know the name of your favorite fly shop so I can get your monthly prize!

Not to fast there Andy... I handled a 38" fish yesterday, but it was not caught on a fly. There are some contenders around! umpkin:

Re: Scouting Trip!!!
how about you add it on to January since we have a tie. That way it is double or nothing next month . That is of course unless someone beats it before this month is over .

Re: Scouting Trip!!!
I'm not going to hold my breath about it. I have heard reliable reports of bigger fish being caught, there just seem to be a lot of them around right now. I went 1 for 3 yesterday. The one I landed was only 28". One of the ones I lost looked big.
