Evites - use or not use?

Gotta send out some virtual invites, and I'm thinking of try evite.com or something like that. What's the consensus from those in-the-know, are these safe? Are people reluctant to respond to them for privacy reasons? Any better alternatives than just a regular email? I wouldn't mind paying for a service if I knew it was totally private. At first glance, evite.com looked like they wanted to " gather & share" a bit much info.

Electronic invitations. You get one in your email, then link up to a website and you can see who's attending and their comments but you can't always tell who they are (depends on how their email profile is set up).

My sister uses them all the time. I don't use it at all. Sometimes I wonder about if they collect all those addies.

I find evites to be intrusive and unnecessary. Since you have to enter the address anyway, why not just send out a group e-mail. I don't like that a third party gets to see the information.

My wife and I get them on a regular basis from 2 couples in our circle of friends. I like them and hate them at the same time. I like them because it keeps us in the loop and we can see what other people are doing. I hate them because if we can't or don't want to attend the event we feel obligated to come up with a story as to why we won't be there. I think these e-vites are the wave of the future. I still prefer an invite in the mail.

Well In Our Group Of " Younger Friends" Yes We Use Them All The Time . They Are A Great Wat Of Spreading The Word And Also See Who Is For Sure And Who Might Be On The Fence . Hope It Helps

but i would like to say that hare there said "I still prefer an invite in the mail " just think of all the money you save in postage .
