Re: Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
Way to go.........Too bad you could not have holed their boat too ...That would have counted for a double....
YA KNOW.......... with all the fish this year... AND all the snagging...Lets have a contest.... I will put up a quart of my best eggs and 2 lbs of my best smoked salmon as a prize for the person that is responsible for the most convictions/fines $ for snagging. Mininum necessary to win is 4 people busted or $1000 in fines. Anyone want to jump on this bandwagon..... HEY ROY. can't you make something to add to the prize.......RT, free autographed 2 copies of your book (this would be a great prize), any body, lets get some good prizes and we all can have some fun fishing for snaggers. We can compare techniques...ya know...plunking (sitting in bushes with camera) or trolling (walking the bank) or drifting ( ?) Lets make some times to get together , just downstream from the best snagging holes, cameras in hand, and try sneaking up on them or we can try fishing with bait (what makes as snagger bite...Bliz stubbies, half botles of mad dog, HoHo's ).... We can do this, have a positative impact and have some fun....................... Hey Osprey and Hey YaAll, and others that chimed in on the Clackamas post this spring..........Why can't we have some fun with Duck tape... How about taping them to a tree, rod and snagged fish in in hand, pants down arround their ankles and then just leave them there.........GAWD...the things we could do........Anybody have the ability to print an instand digital picture..or have a polaroid camera... tape the pic to their forehead and leave them for whoever......... IF the prizes are big enough.... as they say.....if you build it they will come.... We can call it Snag a snagger........

Re: Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
Great idea!
How about:
First snagger,
Biggest snagger,
Most snaggers?
I'll put up a couple pounds of smoked king, too!

Re: Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
How about forming civillian patrols??? get 5 or 6 guys to hang out on a given river snapping pictures of snaggers (instant camera) and have a cell phone handy? and maybe even picking up a little trash at the same time??
One person alone might be intimidated but if there were 5 or 6 of us well that would be different..

Re: Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
Sounds like a great idea. Everybody better be careul because if someone is going to commit a crime of snagging who knows what else they will do. Be careful and catch a bunch of those people making a bad name of fisherman. Turning a blind eye to an illegal activity is allmost as bad as the crime. I think that it is even more important to turn in poachers if your kids are with you. That shows them that they ought to do what is right. My dad did that when I was little and a few tgimes since. I will do the same if I ever get the chance.

Re: Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
Roger: Nice seeing you and the wife. We left the hole and went over to Hermann Creek where we watched about 8 steelhead snagged and released. Although lead jigs where not used, somehow the fish kept coming in tail first.
Does anyone out there have a report on where there are some biting fish????
Giz..

Re: Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
Thanks for the day Giz, I enjoyed seeing some new water. I wish you could have showed me some biters to go with it. Next time we will knock em dead
Roger, I am glad you got the bad guys reported to the good guys.
Ya fishbait, I will make a BBQ like the official ifish BBQ (as seen at ifishstock 2001 ). It would need to be in a more normal size since any BBQ that takes 10 lbs of briquets to fire up is a bit large for a normal family backyard BBQ. Anybody else want to toss in a prize for the most snagging bust?
From what I heard RT will be turning in some poachers trying to claim Fishbaits prize of eggs.

Re: Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
How about the most snaggers busted at one time for a catagory? I already have a very good location in mind. I do think that some undercover officers were casing the place out though. They just seemed to be watching and taking notes more than fishing.
Also is the reg. regarding sinking lures in Washington? I don't think that is a Oregon reg. Buzz bombs and Nordics come with trebs.

Re: Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
There are some interesting ideas regarding the vigilante stings fishbait is suggesting.
I would recommend before anyone does such an activity is to alert the ODFW, state police and local authorities about the intentions. While this is a well-meaning and well-intentioned suggestion, just going out and spending alot of time on this may not pan out without going through the proper channels. I don't think this knee jerk type of action will do much to stop what is going on. Don't get me wrong, I enforce rules to the tee and am generally the first to speak up whenever someone is going to cross the line but to think groups of people going out to enforce laws will have a short term impact on the lawbreakers, I'm going to say it won't.
Maybe fishbait should take the lead and promote this idea to the authorities to get a response. It takes time, money and energy to get justice and without the proper support from the jurisdications, alot of time will be wasted. This is an abundant year for fish and I believe the ODFW and staters wish they had 100 more officers to enforce the laws but the reality is there isn't.
Good ideas, great intentions, just be sure you can make it all stick and innocent people don't get hurt !!

Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
Saw Giz & Bait on the water in Giz's secret
columbia hang out. Watched two fat ladys and
one big dude grappling and netting and bonking snagged nooks with 8 foot clean and jerk method. I had forgot my cell,
want to thank the nice angler in the duckworth with 4 children for calling the 800#. I asked him about Ifish and he mentioned
last falls aluminum hatch on the Wilson after
he had a good day because RT had posted his
success story. He said he mostly lurks but
would look for the results of our efforts in
getting these "pigs" apprehended. I did talk to the game cop when leaving. Two things to keep in mind. No TREBLES on sinking lures. secondly, the 800# is on your license; please use it when you see this crap. These people wouldn't listen and
claimed their fish were fair hooked. It's
funny but I have never seen a fair hooked nook do rear over tea kettle leaps on the end of 60' feet of line. Walt and Roy it was good to see you and I hope you had some success, the wind was starting to blow so we hit the road fishless.

Just call me "Stool Pidgeon". I have turned numerous people in for game violations. I will add 2 lbs. of my AWESOME Coho eggs to the prize pool. God has been very good to me lately.

Re: Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
Stew, This deals with illegal snagging..My previous post discussed the topic of legal snagging as a method of harvesting excess fish in specific selected terminal locations during a specific window of time.

Fishbait, you may want to make that number higher as I have turned in 5, totaling more than $2500 in fines, not to mention any extra charges accrued by a friendly pat-down and search of vehicle.

Re: Giz and Eggs sighting, snaggers turned in....
hustlerrjim,
Get a clue, man. Stool pigeon? These turds are screwing every one of us, and if you're not turning them in, you might as well be labeled an accomplice. I suppose you don't turn in drunk drivers either. Well, if one of them turns your family members into a memory, you'll change your tune.
Who's worse, a snagger or a stool pigeon? You should be embarassed to even ask such a ridiculous question.
