Its that time of year again and I would like to hear about the Nestucca tidewater. Have you or anybody that you know been down there? Is it starting to pick up? I know that the Nooks should be hear or coming soon. How have the tides been? Thanks for any info! .......Fishhead Vic ps...I know that its combat fishing at its finest but I cant resist. Thanks Jon for that good info ! I'm like you I dont like to horse my fish. The crowd down there will tell you to CONTROL THAT FISH but its mine to control the way I want. They can just wait like the rest of us do for them. Hope to meet you down there sometime. You sound like the type of guy who laughs at those kind of guys like I do. Thanks again,..........Fishhead Vic

Well I havent been down to PC in over a week but when I was there they were catching a few a day and losing quite a few more I think they are just wanting those fish too bad lol they "horse" on em untill the hook pops out right at the bank. I dont know about everyone else but I enjoy "playing" my fish and Im not into "forcing" a fish to do what I want. I put plenty of pressure on em but not to the point it looks like its a "tug of war" lol. It just seems kinda silly to me that the same people day after day lose fish the exact same way and never learn from it.

Anyways a few friends of mine were down there the other day and told me that there were 3 fish caught all on spinners.

One major bonous is that there have been alot of fish been caught that have been 40# plus I have personally seen a 47# fish caught and a few 40#+ lost the smallest I have heard of was just over 20# and I have only heard of one that "small".

Its not bad fishing right now but it should get much better soon.

A friend of mine that I grew up with said his father-inlaw caught a big one there this last weekend. He got this info second hand from his wife so no report on size, bait, or location. Just that it was on the Nestucca, in tide water. What are the TIDES like?????? This is almost as important as to how many fish are in there. Thanks for any info.........Fishhead Vic

The way I heard it, It's a clique type of crowd most of the time at PC. I'm told they might harass a new guy until he (hopefully) leaves. It's a meat-hunter mentality down there. So when in Rome, do as the Romans do (same gear, horse the fish in so you're out of everyone's way sooner, etc.) and you'll probably be accepted in a short time.

Thanks Jon for that info! Vinny, like I said combat fishing at its finest. Not only is it a meat hunters paradise these fish get HUGE !!!!!!! Like fishing in a barrel this time of year. There's only so many places to fish in tide water there( off the bank) that it limits the choice of places to go. I was a novice down there at one time but I got used to rubbing elbows with some really nice people. Some are regulars and you see your share of rookies. Just dont go down there with a trout or steelhead rod and 12lb. test line thinking you want to be a sportsman that day or you will be harassed. Another one that seems to get everyone started is someone who starts fishing with a bobber, and throws in on top of guys bottom fishing or everyone is fishing with bobbers and spinners and a rookie comes along and starts bottom fishing. These guys will always do the opposite of what everyone else is doing. These are just a few of the things that go one down there. Some people will put up with just about anything. LOL.......See ya there........Fishhead Vic

I fished PC near the boat launch last Friday and Saturday. It was shoulder to shoulder on the bank, Overlapping on the rock point and oar lock to oar lock on the water. Saw 5 fish landed (Friday night and Saturday morning) and several more hooked. I bumped into one of the guys who landed a big ole nook in a boat while at the store in town. He threw his fish on the scale and it came out to 43lbs. A Nice bright hen!

Any thoughts on how safe it would be to fish the tidewater from an inflatable? I've been considering it, seeing as I don't have a regular boat. It seems like pretty calm water above Pacific City.

Most of the boats I saw were maneuvering with oars only even durring the peak tide changes. If I'd have had an inflateable, I'd have been out there. Just my .02.
Watch out for all the spinners with trebble hooks flying around out there though.

I've seen float tubes above Woods...I've always thought "wow, what a ride on a 50 lb fish!!". But how depressing to run a large treble through the air bladder in 15 feet of water!!

Spot thanks for that lastest info. I own a float tube but I dont trust the boats flying up and down the river, or the spinners and alvins flying either. But what a ride to be hooked up with a hog going back to the ocean. Make sure you have a way to anchor yourself, as to not float with the tide. Never fish that Boat Ramp hole due to the 'zoo' factor. I usually just drive up and watch the show. Fun to watch the pecking order, as some ol' captains tell the others what is OK and what 'ain't'.

???Aren't there slots and holes in the lower tidewater Nestuc where a guy could toss out some bait & bobber in solitude???

well I wish the news was better but I only saw 1 fish hooked and landed today and I was there until about an hr or so after low slack there were some fish moving through but they did just that moved right on through

the one fish that did get into a hook was a nice 30+ lb buck on an alvin

we went up river and managed a nice lil rerun steelie for one of my friends but that was it

to finish off the day we stopped by the Salmon river just to watch and saw a couple landed below the 101 bridge so we decided to give it a shot. saw 4 or 5 landed many more lost. there was an alvin bite right after sunset I even managed to loose a nice 15+ fish right before dark. Many fish in the river and only saw 2 or 3 foul hooked and they were released. alot of smaller fish around between 5 and 10 lbs probably mostly silvers but one that was caught was about a 12 lb chinook
