Toilet Question
Is it possible to increase the suction on a toilet without buying a new one?
If so, how?

Re: Toilet Question
You could improve the vent (the pipe that goes through the roof) or put more water in the tank. That is about it.

Re: Toilet Question
Make sure that the 1/2-3/4 inch hole near the bottom is clean. Alot of times calcium deposits will form in there and it will not flush very well at all. Also make sure that all the little holes by the rim are clear also. Use a metal clothes hanger to clean out all the little holes and you can also use it as a "pick" for the bigger hole in the bottom. That is about all i could suggest.

Re: Toilet Question
I used to be a plumber and played one at home depot the only way to increase the preformance in your toilet ts to instal a better flaper valve it helps a little the one I use and recomend is red (cant rember the name)it is a direct replacement and only cost a few dollers,or you can upgrade to a koler cimeron toilet and never have to wory again (200.00).

Re: Toilet Question
Raise the tank up as high as you can. The further the water drops in the tube the better.

Re: Toilet Question
you can increase flush capacity through adjustments inside the tank. Make sure the flapper is not closing prematurely too.

I think the flapper The Capt. is talking about is also the one I recommend ... Fluidmaster Bulls eye Adjust-A-Flush Flapper ... Installation is a breeze and in some instances you will actually get a double flush outa it ... Yea its Red ... ...Barney

The red flapper, which also comes in black, is a Korky flapper. I put one in each of the two toilets in our house and they flush MUCH better than the original ones in there.

Re: Toilet Question
Yes that is the one I was thinkin of the KORKY black or red work great the red is more resistant to chemicals is the dif in the two. The american standerd cant hold up agenst the kohler the replacement parts for it are way too expencive and hard to get at the local hardware store, that goes for all american standerd toilets, the kohler cost less to buy and maintain, plus it out flushes everything on the market in its price range.( I should be a sales rep for kohler)

Re: Toilet Question
The last generation , not the current line of toilets had a 1 5/8" throat. The throat is the S shaped tube that goes from the bowl to the drain.
The wisdom of the powers that be, decided that a smaller throat was the only way to use less water when you flush.
Wellllll 1 5/8" is a bit smaller than some of the waste that needed to pass through them.
Whole apartment complexes were getting clogged and overfowing due to the wonder of water conservation.
There was a great rush to own a quality plunger!
It took them about 5 years re-write the code on toilets and to expand the throat to a whopping 1 3/4".
Take the lid off the tank and flip it over. Somplace on the under side of the lid you will find the date of manufacture stamped into the clay. If the toilet is 3 to 8 years old it is more than likely the small throat build and a new flapper aint going to help that. The only thing to help those is make deposits of 1 3/8" or less.
Buy one of the new Kholer or American Standard and flush with the best of them.
Toilets are like every thing else, there are good ones and then there are the ones that aren't worth a carp, well you get the idea.
I'm not positve on the dates that those small throat toilets were built. A plumber or some one at George Moreland could tell you for sure.

Re: Toilet Question
Great thread.
I just want a toilet that can swallow a basket ball and not burp.
I don't think I'm alone on this thought.

Re: Toilet Question
I envision something involving pressurizing the tank, a large compresser and a well pressure tank. All hooked up according to code, of course. Don't forget to duct tape the lid closed when you flush.
