Default Union Members on Ifish

This is something that was put out today by my union IAMAW in response to the terrorist attacks on America on Tuesday. If you don't like unions that's okay but please refrain from bashing this thread.

VENGEANCE

Tuesday morning, UNION members went to work cleaning planes, checking reservations, loading bags and making passengers comfortable. At Logan,Newark and Dulles airports, their pre-dawn routines went on as usual.

The planes they prepared for flight had been built by UNION members. Their engines had been checked and re-checked by UNION mechanics. Their fuel tanks had been topped off by UNION fuelers.

UNION members were aboard at least one of the flights. And UNION members were working in the Pentagon.

So. This is personal

It was OUR planes that were used as weapons of mass destruction. It was OUR members who were among the murdered!

And we will have OUR venegeance!

The terrorists and the nations who shield them miscalculated badly. They struck at the symbols of America's economic and military power: The World Trade Towers and the Pentagon.

They did not touch the reality of that might:the working men and women across the USA whose souls were seared by this act of war.

Today UNION members return to work. They
will be prepping the planes that can just as easily carry troops to the farthest reaches of the earth! They will be building the F-15,F16,F-18's and F-22's that WILL impose a new reality on those who have dared attack us.

For it is not simply justice we seek. It is vengeance, pure and simple!

International Association Of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Local 1432

GOD BLESS THE USA

The American people have been "Sold down the river" by the Major Airline Corporations. Corporate Giants have placed convenience and profits (If it's convenient to fly, they make more money!) above Safety! These Giants have the political clout to control the F.A.A.! This thread was started only as show of solidarity among union brothers and sisters during this tragedy! It's not meant to imply that union workers are better than non-union workers. All Americans, both union and non-union,share and are affected by this tragedy. I thought it would be nice to share this with other union members on ifish.

I'm not a member of any union and am not likly to be. I'm not overfond of unions but this is not the time nor place to discuss the finner points of labor and managment.

However I have served 21.5 years in the US Navy. I have had friends stationed at the Pentagon over the years.(I hope none at present) So I too have lost comrades and agree 100% IT IS PERSONAL.

This is one of those times in the history of our country when, WE THE PEOPLE, needs to resound in one voice.

Yes, mistakes were made by executives. Mistakes were made by policy makers. Mistakes were made by the Intelligence comunity and almost everyone else down the line too.

But, at this point, looking back must only be done to keep us from making the same mistakes. If we waste time and effort trying to put blame on those we don't happen to like, we do no honnor to ourselves nor to our fallen comrades. Also, it will, decrease the effectiveness of our defense and our ability to retaliate.

Just as in 1941, We now need to pull together. We need to set aside our differences and all work together. And make no mistake, our enemies are capable of making us pay for any mistakes in loyalty. Our fist loyalty HAS TO BE to our people. Americans! Where ever they came from, or are now, our people need our commitment.

I also realize we can't do this alone. We are going to need the help of the rest of the civilizes world. But if we can't keep our own commitment strong the rest of the world wont be impressed enough to follow our example. If that happens, we can expect to go through this kind of thing again and again and again.

So the point of all this, KEEP THE FAITH, stand behind our country by doing the work that is needed. Put away our petty differences and pull together. Remember Freedom only comes through VICTORY.

Ok I'll get off my soap box now, sory if I got a bit windy.

I am not trying to start a fight here.

I honestly want to know why some unions not all don't give a crap abouit part time employees. I wirk part time and got stiffed out of vacation pay after two years with the company becaus I did not work enough hours in a year. The union got there union dues. The jerks could have at least sent me a stupid contract. So I took my two weeks off and got no pay. Why is that? Becuase the regular employees did not think the rule needed to be changed. I am sure most unions are great. My moms and grandmas are. I hope that everyone else in a union does not get shafted like I did.

Robert,
Under most union contracts, a person needs to work at least 25 hrs a week to qualify for benefits of any kind, but what you need to do
is get ahold of your union rep and discuss making it an issue for the upcoming next contracts negotiations, talk with your fellow workers and get thier support. It is YOUR union, but even without a union contract I don`t know of any company that offers benefits for employees working less than 25 hrs a week. From the sounds of things I take it you must be a student working at a restaurant under the food servers union.
Contact your local chapter see what they can do for you. And while your down there, get a copy of your contract handbook...
It is the bible that the compnay nad the union must abide by under state law..
