Default Fall from Grace

I caught the last 20 minutes of a program on Showtime last night called "Fall from Grace" about the Westboro Baptist church in Topeka Kansas. That's the group that likes to picket at fallen soldiers funerals and such with signs indicating that "God hates f---"(rhymes with bags).

Amazing what an intensely hateful group of people. For me it was not only appalling that the adults could think it was ok to behave this way but they were teaching the very young children that the bible teaches this stuff. The interviewer asked the children if they knew the meaning of what they were saying and they all had no clue, basically they were vomiting up the garbage they were being fed.

I'm all for free speech but it seems to me there should be some social responsibility attached to it.

IMHO, those freaks need to be stomped into a quivering pile of goo. To disrespect the family of a fallen US Soldier in that way just rub me wrong - REALLY WRONG. I agree that they have the right to their opinion and even that they can teach it to their kids but can't get past the disrespect issue of protesting at the funeral. Washington DC?, Yes; State Capitol?, Yes; Funeral in progress? Time to throw down...

Seems like the only social responsibility anymore is the majority being made to lower themselves to the wishes of the minority.

Well this could very well be a blessing in disguise for these kids, Rich. We all know that kids are pretty darn sharp and inquisitive too. It's hard to pull the wool over their eyes for very long. When their natural curiosity leads them to reading the Bible on their own and they see what God's Word really says...well...adios to the Westboro "church" (term used very loosely).

Truth always overcomes lies just as sure as light overcomes darkness.

The downside to your assertion is that the elder Phelps that started the church has 13 children and all but 4 continue to preach his gospel. Their children and grandchildren are also involved. They did interview 2 of the 4 that left the church and surprisingly enough they think the rest are nuts.

Well Rich, it looks like there's hope for the world after all.

There is and always has been a fringe element in society who will try to persuade others with false messages. Those who will actually believe them are minimal. The other responses to this thread give a pretty indication of that.

Yep, and that is exactly what it is..."his" gospel. There are 2.1 billion Christians in this world who follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If Mr. Phelps is indeed a student of the Bible, he has surely read the sermon on the mount. It would be interesting how he would reconcile himself with Jesus' words. Matthew 7:15-17,20

"Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit...therefore by their fruits you will know them." Amen.

Makes we want to believe in eternal punishment! We'll see who God hates, I'm inclined to think God may not think too highly of insanely cruel people.

I write technical decisions for the state, we have production goals because of the amount of reviews that we do. The weakest links are catered to and the standards are lowered to their level. That really looks like the way America is going. A Veteran dies for their Country, they don’t care, they spew their garbage and it is their right. A lot of people want to come to America, then we must cater to THEM. Press 1 if you speak English, press 2 to be disconnected and to call back when you can speak English. If I went to Italy (I’m Italian) and sue them because they are not translating everything to English, they and any other county will run me out of town. Not the good old U.S. of the offended, I love and defended this Country for 22 years. Where are we going?
