This might prove useful: http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?t=141559
Many of us have thrown these homemade e-calls together.

Shucks HNF, you beat me to it.....

TKK, I'm building one now and for sure you can do it for less than a C-note. You can put one together really easily with a MP3 player, a Radio Shack amp, a PA speaker and a couple of patch cords. Alternately, you can get pretty elaborate and mount the speaker/amp in an enclosure or even go wireless if you can spend some extra $$$. Granted, the home-made models aren't quite as slick as a new Foxpro but at 1/3rd the cost, who cares? Besides, its a fun project

PM me if you need any help -

I can't remember if is was Cheasepeak or Adobe Wall that had some recommendations on better amps and speaker. Mine is just ok, but could use more volume (gain) and less distortion when cranked up on high. My mp3 player also seem to clip the output if cranked up too high. So I hav eto keep the MP3 volume at 3/4 and crank up the amp.

I run the Western Rivers sounds and a couple 15-20min seq's I found online. I've only used it on one hunt so far) last year'ss IFish Predator and it called in two dogs. One I frag'ed shooting through brush and the other my partner spooked off by moving before it can all the way in. And the wind was howling the whole time!

All in all I'm pleased so far.....certainly was cheap to build. The next one will be one of those fancy wireless versions. I don't have $500 to dump on a FX5.

Cass creek makes an external speaker with built in amp that plugs right into the mp3 or cd player it is pretty cool and from reviews online it has great sound. It is call Bighorn speaker no need to buy the amp speakers and wire and its onlike like 50 bucks rp
