Do you bite, clip, or cut???
My whole life I've always bitten monofilament line, rather than clip or cut with a knife. I've got clippers hanging on my vest, and a knife in my pocket..I just can't break the habit of biting it off. 20, 30, 40 lb, doesn't matter. Things have changed a little, since I have Tuff line on my sturgeon and night fishing rods.....can't bite that stuff!!! But, for some dumb reason, I'll cut the braided, set the knife down, and bite the end of the leader off!!
How about everyone else??

Mono - Bite
Braided - Gnaw/Grind
Good thing I don't do to much halibut fishing, that metal leader would present a challenge that I don't want to step up to.

Having split the cap on a front tooth squarely down the middle while gnawing on 8-pound-test mono, I am now a clipper.

It depends on my mood, but I'm usually a biter. Must be from munching all that carpet that keeps me biting mono.

I used to bite, don't now. Friend of mine is missing a few pieces of his front teeth from biting. I now have no problem reaching for the clippers attached to my vest.

Fishing in the Willamette I clip everywhere else I bite. I just can't stand the thought of raw sewage.

i'm a bitter, and i can't stop, i too have clippers always hanging within reach but, that mono finds it's way into my mouth every time! now that bradided stuff takes a little more time but it can be chewed through. boy, i hope no dentitist read this thread, they would have a cow, or a lot of new potential clients! Re: Do you bite, clip, or cut???
I mostly cut with pliers or clippers but a month ago I was hurrying to get rigged up down at the mouth of the Columbia and bit onto some 20lb. and broke a tooth. Now it's cut it always.

The next question is: When you bite that tag line after tying a knot do you spit or swallow it?

Re: Do you bite, clip, or cut???
I guess it depends on what kind of line it is now, doesn't it?
Usually I'll just wipe my hands and face clean, and the tag will be saved until later.

Re: Do you bite, clip, or cut???
I usually cut with a knife while holding the tag end in my mouth. As an avid ocean fisherman, I figure it's just a matter of time before a swell makes me stab myself in the face.
That'll be OK, since chicks dig scars, plus I can make up some cool story to go with it.
Maybe I will go get a pair of clippers to tie to my bibs.

Re: Do you bite, clip, or cut???
Same as Amp, my teeth are like a bag of ruffles...full of ridges. My dentist harps on me all the time about ruining my teeth. I'm getting much better about clipping the line with my pliers. They're always on me, had one to many hooks embedded im my fingers so I kill two birds with one stone.

Re: Do you bite, clip, or cut???
Neither, I melt the line. I once had a knot come undon, but I still boated the fish. The little ball of melted mono wouldn't go through the hook eye. I ahve been a melter ever since.

Re: Do you bite, clip, or cut???
I used to be a biter but that was a long time ago for trout.
I then learned to sturgeon fish and 90lb mono required pliers.
I now wear a tool saver on the belt that holds my diagonal pliers and hook file. The diag. also crimp lead on the inside and cut Hollow core on the outside. I highly recommend this setup except use needle nose with the cutting section.

Re: Do you bite, clip, or cut???
I was a biter for years The urge has been broken when my teeth starting to hurt when I did this act. I now clip when possible. I once dated a gal that was a biter...couldn't break her, so I had to find another. I even tried reminding her ...no teeth. To her credit she was good with the file.

You guys better watch out biting those split shot. Have you seen the labels that are now on or with lead weights? "CAUTION - this product contains lead (duh, I hope so) which is known to cause blah, blah..............."

I use to bite. My teeth have been worn down on one side and now I look like I'm smiling all the time. It's a hard habit to break...or bite.
