What's yer Favorite Sled Gadgets?
Hey everybody, I'm outfitting my ( new to me ) 20' Alumaweld V-sled. I'm beginning to realize that the old saying about your "boat being a hole in the water to pour your money" is true. What are a few of your must haves, aside from a kicker motor. Would appreciate your input.
Thanks, Billy T.

Re: What's yer Favorite Sled Gadgets?
One of the most helpful things in my boat is leader holders. I use foam pipe insulation on a rod that is held in my pole holder clamps. This makes changing leaders and rigs much more organized, and without them tangling on everything else. I tend to change set-ups a lot, and this really helps. I'm sure you'll get a lot of great input on this thread.
A couple of more goodies: VHF radio, bonkin' stick, electronic scale, digital camera, rod holders, assorted sized nets, docking rope, bumpers, PFD's, first aid kit, tool kit, ....
Congrats on the new-to-you boat.

Re: What's yer Favorite Sled Gadgets?
If it is a sport jet, get the STOMP GRATE. This is a handle on the rear deck you push down to clear the intake grate. It is not any fun getting into 40 degree water to clear the grate of seaweed or cottonwood leaves or small rocks or sticks or plastic bags.

also:
net holder, rocket launcher rod holders or other rod storage device, gps (really helps in the fog)and if you have hard glass windows, I really like the suction cup lure holders - you can hang several spinners/kwikfish, etc. on them. You can get them for about $8 at Boaters World.

Re: What's yer Favorite Sled Gadgets?
1. Fish finder / Depth sensor.... had to find out I needed this pretty quickly after getting the boat. Got a little shallow.
2. Kicker ... to get me out of the mess from above.
3. Just bought a TR1 this week and believe that after I get it all installed it will be #1 on my list. My wife will love not hearing me complain about steering the boat anymore in the rain, snow, wind, etc... If you have the 2 above get the TR1!!!!

Lead box that fits close to where your kicker is mounted, with dividers for different weights. Your lead box should have holes drilled in the bottom so rain water can drain out.
VHF radio with plastic laminated card showing Coast Guard, Hailing and Distress and Barge channels.
1 million candle power handheld spotlight.
Toiler paper for emergencies.

Re: What's yer Favorite Sled Gadgets?
My boat is VERY simple, but I wouldn't be without a warm water hand wash (built mine for like $20) and a wash down pump (bought the pump and installed myself for like $150 total)
My new floor deck will include a fish box Tilla

Re: What's yer Favorite Sled Gadgets?
A small tool kit with basic stuff for fixing. I never have used it on my boat but it has com in handy for fixing others.
Mount a bar style bottle cap opener easily reachable from the kicker seat, gets those bottles of rootbeer open with only one hand.

Re: What's yer Favorite Sled Gadgets?
Lots of good suggestions, here's mine:
If is an inboard jet, get the extended clean-out. This allows you to open your pump without flooding the boat in the event you need to pull a stick out of your pump.
Fishfinders; I like Lowrance.
Trim tabs make the ride a lot more comfortable but are only needed on inboards. If yours is an outboard, a power trim unit will do the same thing.
Washdown pump, good but remember to drain it before freezing weather.
Must have!!! An anchor cradle/bow roller to get your great big anchor out of the boat and up on the bow!!!
I used to think that only wimps had tops on their boats, until I had one. A place to get out of the blazing sun and the freezing rain and wind is a great creature comfort. Get at least partial side curtains for when the wind blows.

Re: What's yer Favorite Sled Gadgets?
Based upon the previous suggestion:
It sounds like you would be interested in our Anchor Assist - Specialty anchor rest/nest, designed to use with Buoy retrieval systems. We are Big Water Company, a small 2 person operation in Gresham, Oregon. It allows you to pull your rope and retrieval mechanism through the nest, leaving your rope/chain in place in the rest. It is designed so you can continue pulling until your anchor comes to rest in the holder nest, without taking out the rope or chain to lift it past the retrieval mechanism. Dropping anchor is simple, raise your rope and the anchor cantilevers onto the roller and drops into the river. WE designed and make these and are currently selling them only by word of mouth, a few local shows, a few boat dealers and over the Internet. You can find read about it and see photos at our web site which is: http://members.aol.com/bigwatercompa...horAssist.html and http://hometown.aol.com/mary490/Anch...tPictures.html , and if you want to order one you can follow the link to the order form page, or go directly there with this address: http://members.aol.com/bigwatercompany/index.html , We hope you find it interesting. We feel that we make most functional and best working Bow Anchor rest/retriever on the market and we are certain that support and comments of satisfied customers will support our success.

I have used that big water anchor assist and I tell you what that is one slick gadget. You can pull your ball, chainand anchor all in one motion. No more leaning over the to pull up your anchor. I think it is the best gadget on Mr 5-Cents new boat.........Chris

Re: What's yer Favorite Sled Gadgets?
Besides having
auto TR-1
electric downriggers
GPS
I have a 120 qt ice cooler on the back of my boat with an outside bilge pump with an aerator on an auto timer. I use this as a live well, dry storage or fish box. I have 2 drain holes on the side and use a flip plug in which ever hole I need for the level of water, or plug all drain holes when using as dry storage. Works great!

TR1. Just tried mine out today and other than a minor problem it was great. It's a lot of money but worth every penny. Unless you like sitting in the rain hanging on to your kicker whilest everyone else is inside, dry, warm, and drinking coffee.
