One of the perks of having a yellow duck dog...(Sauvie Report)
They remind you that you are participating in a blood sport...
We had a fine day of shooting out on Sauvie today in the driving rain and wind. Limits for four of mixed birds a bit more than half mallards, with the balance in wigeon, pintail, teal, and my first canvasback. Tough shooting in that wind, and the dogs really had their work cut out for them. Every bird was carried by the wind as it fell and it made for some long retrieves. My young girl got some good work and got to watch my buddy's old pro at work. She is really coming along.

Nice pic Kurt, glad to see she's working into the great hunting companion you wanted her to be.
Sledder, I think that's not her blood

That is truly a classic!!!
There is NOTHING like hunting over a dog. It's worth the whole trip just to watch 'em work. Looks like your pup has the "work" part pretty well figured out.
Congrats - and not just for the ducks.

Definitely not her blood. No holes in the dog yesterday.

Here is the view of the fuge at one of the lulls in the storm. I couldn't have taken the camera out during 90% of the weather.
And here is the pile shot, not pretty, some of you might recognize a couple of those nefarious characters.

Thanks. I totally agree on the dog part. We had one very good older dog (Jon's girl, Flora in the pic of the fuge) and my young pup, and without them, we would have lost 50% or more of our birds. Definitely the dog work was the highlite of the hunt for me. That, and good company. We shot (at) bunches of birds, but the wind wasn't quite right for the spot, so it wasn't feet down stuff.

What a day Kurt! Yellow dogs show duckblood for sure. That is a classic picture, fit for frame.
I trust your company felt right at home in the wind and waves.

Check out the next one on the camera, where she is shooting me the stink eye and reminding me she does NOT like to have her picture taken.

"some of you might recognize a couple of those nefarious characters."
Great photos and post,
I've always believed that nefarious characters and duckhunting belong together.
Kind of like pirates do with hooked limbs and eye patches...

No surprise, you know that female labs have an attitude. That's why I like them. Sadie (my female lab) communicates her displeasure with me in more than one way. Usually, its vocally, with a whiny grunt while she does what she is told (she is very obedient, at least to me).
The "look" is classic though!!

Re: One of the perks of having a yellow duck dog...(Sauvie Report)
My old yellar dog was great to hunt with. My black "Duck ota" is excellent but yellow sure looks cool with duck butter on them. This is a picture from Sunday after I got back from a killer windy duck shoot. My yellar dog Loves the big black duck hunter.
