Bank fishing advise?....
I Reeeeally want to get out to Hammond this weekend, but may not be able to due to my buddy having broken boat and his repair man stuck in California with no flights back up due to the current situation.
I've been monitoring discussion around here a lot, and have learned TONS. I know that water levels are low in the rivers, water temps are too warm, need rain, etc. But is there anywhere on ANY river that seems to have a little action off the bank right now? I love spending a day on the river fishing no matter what, but it sure is better when you do some "catching" too.
Any of you experienced fellas' have any advice on a good place to go this Saturday off the bank in case I cant get out to Astoria in a boat? Any good luck on a particular rig that you could share? I've got the itch for a fish baaaaad.
Fishbait? RT? Big Stew?? Or anybody else on the long list of NW experts? Sure would be appreciated.

If you would rather email one person rather than share a good spot with an entire board, I understand. If you would rather not tell anybody at all I'd understand that too. Just in case though, my addy is...

Johnny...
I'm going back up to the bench on the Big White Salmon on Saturday night. If you've got a Washington license, it's a good bet. Just need a few 2-4 oz leads, a decent rod with 20-25lb test, and some Spin-n-Glows, size 4, 2, or 0. My personal favorite is the lime green with white wings. Clown and chartruse/orange is also a consistent one.
I plan on being there around 9-9:30 Sat night..there's almost always a bite around 10, then one right around midnight...maybe there's an underwater clock??

Re: Bank fishing advise?....
Kyle, you drive all the way up from Oreegone to fish the bench? The Rogue is much better, I'm sure. You're pitching and retrieving those glows, right? Or are you plunkin' 'em? You said you use lime green glows with white wings. I wonder how the fish see that color in the dark?

Re: Bank fishing advise?....
Unfortunately, I'm a long ways from my childhood home on the Rogue....I wish I was there.
Don't ask me how they know those spin-n-glows are there!!! I generally use SandShrimp with them, but just as many fish are caught with fishing them bare.
Sorry I'm an Orygun'er tramping on your turf.

Oh it's cool. I don't mind ya being on 'my' turf. You Orygun fishers seem to be more successful than us Warshingtonians.
So if you use sandshrimp too, you must be just plunking out there? Isn't anybody fishin' spinners there anymore? Haven't been there since spring. Just trying to learn something from you Oregonians.

Re: Bank fishing advise?....
The night fishing is all plunking...once the sun makes a little light, it switches to spinners, although we've done well on spin-n-glows during the middle of the day, as well. Just can't get anyone to go along with doing it. Also, the silvers run shallow, and it's pretty unlikely to get into one of them plunked on the bottom. I generally use a 36-40 inch leader.

Re: Bank fishing advise?....
Johnny,
Sorry I did not have much computer time Fri. My recommendations would be the Nehalem Jetty, THe Salmon River by Lincoln City, Lower Nestucca Tidewater (have thick skin), the Clack for Silvers. Lower Sandy, Gnat Creek (check regs). This time of year there are many good spots. Watch weather, tides for the Silvers in Lower N.Fk Nehalem Tidewater to either go on the bite (limited bank access in tidewater) or make an early charge up the creek. If you want some fun, be there when the river comes up a few inches. Thake the BenGay for you arm. This is alxo not a bad time for late summers in teh Wilson, wspecially with some low prressure this weekend.

Re: Bank fishing advise?....
Hey Rogue, I caught my first adult nook there almost 2 weeks ago. I was thining of making the trek toward the "real world" sometime today. I haven't tried the night time plunk yet.
Are you using live sand shrimp, & if so, where do you pick them up near White Salmon?
Hope to see you on the bench sometime.

Dudes talkin about low pressure systems and steelhead fishing. Is there any wonder why I singled him out to ask for advice? Lordy lord
Thanks a lot fishbait, for the reply. We ended up just scouting a couple rivers (Nehalem and Trask) for next month. Found some good holes that may actuall have some decent elbow room. Might try the jetty like you say though maybe next weekend if my buddies boat still isnt fixed.
Thanks again!
