Wish me luck in New York

I will be heading out with the U.S.A.R.(Urban Search and Rescue Team) tonight. I am ready physically. I hope that I am mentally. I have developed what I call a mental "professional detachment" over the years. I can cope with the sight, sounds and even the smells, but what concernes me most is removing the bodies of my fellow firefighters. When it gets tough, as I am sure that it will, I will think of you all here in the Northwest.
I should be back in a week or so. Save me a couple of bright ones will ya? Adios!

I'll wish you more than luck! I applaud you and your comrades for your courage in helping to protect us at any given time. And especially for this toughest of tasks that you face. I humbly offer to take you fishing, all expenses on me, when you return from this needed mission. Appreciation to you and your kind.

I've read one report of people still alive in the basement car parks of the WTC calling out on their cell phones. As long as there's hope, I'm certain our emergency service people will do what it takes to find those people.

Our family's thoughts and prayer will be with you on your trip.

When this event happened my uncle was visiting us and is not from this state. He is a retired captain in the fire department. They had not know all day of the events until I mentioned it to them just before dinner. When I told him about the lost firefighters he turned white and dropped to his knees. Now I know just how strong the bond is with the firefighters. My heart was heavy but faith provides strength.
