How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
I was informed by a gas station attendent that the oil companies are poised to kick us when we are down. Tommorow this particular station will open at $3.49 9/10 per gallon for regular unleaded. Plus will be a dollar more. What the hell is wrong with this picture? How can corporations be so cold to pull something so low?
Get to the stations now.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
We'll my wife just spent 45 minutes in a gas line waiting to fill up. When she finally got to the pump they were out of all grades of gas except premium. Over $2 a gallon. At midnight the new tripled prices go into effect. My wife is at Wal-mart, as I speak, picking up locking gas caps. I'll be tying my dog to my truck tonight.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
why does the Justice Dept. hunt Bill Gates relentlessly, but turn a blind eye to OPEC??? Is OPEC not a monopoly??
I hope we don't get used to the prices and just live with it like we did when desert storm took place. Gas was never more that a buck till desert storm then it went to 1.50. We paid it for so long we must of got used to it cause it is still at least 1.50???

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
The gas price gouging is a really crummy thing to do. I wanted to say something else but it would be really inapropiate.
It takes a really crummy person to pull this kind of crap.
Maybe we should go buy gas tanks from GI JOEs and stock up on gas since they are now a sponsor.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
A thing is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
I rode Tri Met this morning from my home to Tigard. It took 2-1/2 hours and three transfers and I was not alone. This gives me time to play with the palm pilot and read the newspaper. There is no way in hell I'm paying the ridiculous price asked for fuel. I'll walk or bike if it becomes necessary. Moving closer to the job is also getting some consideration. As far as dragging all my fishing gear to the coast anytime soon and buying 50 - 60 gallons of gas, that's out too.
If there is any way you can do it, I urge you to limit your consumption of fuel. Ride the bus or Max, carpool, and combine your errands into one trip. There is a natural decline in the amount of gas used this time of year anyway. If the demand drops quickly enough then the oil companies will have to eat thier product or starve.
We are at war people. Start acting like it. Personal cars and recreational boats are a luxury, soon to be priced out of the reach of the little people.
Reject the church of greed.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
Before you go blaiming the "Big Corporations" for the increase in fuel costs, remember these stations are individually owned and current fuel inventory was bought at a lower price before the attack. I am not defending the big fuel company's but the price gauging is occuring at the retail owner level.
Remember those stations that gouged you now, because this hysteria won't last long.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
I drove by the stations near my house this morning, and they were holding steady at $1.65. They'll keep my business.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
This may be unpopular, but this is exactly the reason we need to develop more oil resources, such as ANWR. This way we can get out from under the thumb of the Middle East members of OPEC. We need to take control of our destiny, not be controlled.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
happybrew you are a lucky man. Salem station owners have had some of the lowest prices for the last two years. You should live in McMinnville. These bums have maintained a high price and take every opportunity to raise the prices. I just paid a 171 in Tillamook and and their prices have been holding fairly steady. The greedy gougers in this town will not get any of my business. I go to Salem for my gas and will continue to do so even if Salem gets to be higher. I refuse to buy from these greedy bas----s.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
sure destroy ANWR for a 3-day supply of oil. We need to find alternative energy sources, but that isn't going to happen with your petroleum barons in power is it.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
Cagey...
I know what you mean about high prices in Mac...Newberg also, when Salem is 10, 15, even 20 cents/gallon cheaper. There is no way that it costs more to do business in Mac than Salem...probably less in taxes, even. So, with less and less competition, prices will continue to climb, and nothing we can do about it.
I gas up in Salem whenever I'm headed that way. Pretty sad.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
These station owners that double the price of an essential resource - a resource that there is virtually no alternative to, should be taken into 'protective custody' and given a week to re-think their marketing strategy.
Alternatively, a few pickets with "BOYCOTT THIS GREEDHEAD" signs would likely have an impact too.
In reply to that one prior post - no, drilling in ANWR solves nothing and only capitulates to the oil companies greed.

Re: How to turn a profit in the face of tradegy
Taken from usatoday.com:
"We can report that there has been no supply disruption to justify such prices," U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham said.
Consumers should call the Energy Department's hotline at 1-800-244-3301 to report any service stations charging unjustified prices for gasoline, he said.
Nation wide, gas is averaging $1.65 a gallon.
If you see a station that's gouging, call up that number and bust their sorry butts!
