Default CVA in-line 50 cal. muzzleloader

This is my question to all of you that are experienced muzzleloader hunters.

I recently purchased a CVA Elkhorn inline 50 cal from Sportsman Warehouse. The gentleman that helped me ( BOB ) was extremely helpful and seemed very knowledgeable about muzzleloading. He recommended the CVA as a starter gun.

Being a novice at muzzleloading I decided to research CVA on the internet. Much to my chagrin, I found a number of articles relating to various accidents involving the CVA...I believe many of the accidents were a direct cause of using 3- 50 grain pellets, rather then the 2- 50 grain pellets that Bob from SW recommended I use.

I plan on shooting the gun tomorrow to gain some familiarity with the CVA, however, if there is anyone out there that could give me some sound advice, I would greatly appreciate it....

Thanks.

TG

You should have gotten some spec's with the gun that will say the maximum amount of powder you can use. If not I would check with CVA and find out before stuffing 150 grains in her. Some "price point" guns are not made for a large charge.

I told ya,100 grains is enough !!!!!!!!,that gun is a good starter gun its not for magnum loads !!! When I got my first inline it was a CVA had it for several yrs and never had a proplem with it.When my wife bought my Austin & Halleck a few yrs back (6) I sold it and the guy I sold it to is still hunting with it.REMEMBER !!! to lube your breech plug and nipple !!!!!! or you will be sorry !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did shoot 348 grain power belts in it recently I went to 295 grains with two pellets in my Austin.I've had very good luck with these bullets,I'm going to try the polymer tipped ones and see how they shoot as they were made legal in Washington this yr.not sure what weight bullet yet.
Remember if you shoot a saboted bullet to CLEAN YOUR BARREL very very good and get all the plastic fowling out of your rifleing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't really like the sabots bullets cus of the fowling they do in your barrel, you might try the Maxi-hunter BULLETS i showed you as there solid lead and prelubed and see how they shoot in your gun the 275 grain would be a good place to start should be good for both deer and elk.You don't need to shoot a 400 grain bullet.

GOOD LUCK HUNTING.

Bob

CVA in-line 50 cal. muzzleloader, maybe that will help me catch my limit. Put the muzzle in the water and when I see a fish on the finder BOOM!
It might just work.
